SWAN Sushi Seafood Bar — Restaurant in Scottsdale

I’m one of the 1st patrons of Swan and a relative regular patron. I wrote a glowing review a couple months ago. Only negative was slow bar service. It continues to be an issue and as such this review is directed to owner/ manager as notice of issue in the hopes that it is acknowledged and rectified for the benefits of the customers and Swan itself. I was in-solo-to have drinks and dinner at the bar within the last week. I arrived shortly after 6 PM. There were three other patrons at the bar. All the other places at the bar except one were dirty from previous customers. There was no bartender behind the bar. I saw Joshua, the usual and friendly bartender, serving tables. Approximately 10 minutes after I sat at the bar he came behind bar and said he would be back shortly to take my order. A few minutes later I ordered my cocktail and then he left the bar to continue serving tables. Meanwhile, several people showed up at the hostess stand where there was no one to greet and help customers. A party of 4 people appeared to want to sit at the bar. There were no clean places for them to sit down at the bar and there was no one to greet and assist them and after several minutes they left. Finally, someone came to the front and helped the other customers waiting to get a table. I had finished my first drink and was waiting to order my second to then be followed by ordering dinner. Again it was 10 to 15 minutes AFTER I finished my first drink before Joshua returned behind the bar to take my order for my second drink. I decided to also order my dinner which I normally would not have done until I was near the end of my second drink, but I felt compelled to order because of the delays so far. Shortly after this, a disgruntled patron came in from the patio to tell Joshua that they had been waiting 30 minutes at their table for someone to take drink orders. During my time at the bar for two drinks and dinner at the bar, the patrons at the bar when I arrived had left their places which were not cleaned (like all the other places at the bar) by the time I left 90 minutes later. One other patron came in and sat next to me at a dirty place to wait for a to go order and he like myself had to wait several minutes for service. He too was very frustrated. I had not seen the owner/manager who normally I think is there from 5 PM on. As I was about to leave, she came in appearing to be carrying a new router or similar device and as I was leaving, an employee finally came to the bar to start cleaning previously occupied places. In addition to this incident, I brought several members of my family to have dinner a month or so ago, again getting drinks took a LONG time which frustrated us as well as patrons we heard complaining about the same near us. In short, I want to see Swan succeed. Everything about the restaurant is excellent except the slow bar service. In my opinion, there should be at least one if not two dedicated bartenders who are not doubling as...

I've dined here four times in the last month due to holding off-site work meetings, so I feel like I can be a pretty good judge of this place now. It's a great addition to this area as there aren't a ton of options. This space has had a few different restaurants over the years, but I really hope this is the one to stay!

The interior is nice, and I like the look of the bar and the sushi bar, but the outside patio is extra lovely. Especially this time of year and having a mountain view. The lunch specials are great. The Maki combo is a choice of 3 rolls or go for a bento special and choose teriyaki chicken, salmon, or kalbi beef. I've loved every roll I've tried: snow crab, golden California, Vegas, Philly, and especially the Dynamite Roll with panko baked scallops!

The only caveat is that myself and a friend ordered a bento to go, and the meat was dry on both. We accept the fault on that as I'm sure it's not meant to go. Also, I've only been during my own work hours, so I haven't been able to inbibe, but the sake list is long, and the cocktail list looks delicious.

If you're not familiar with the area... you should be! I'm biased because I work up this way, but it's a beautiful area to connect with nature. Hike Pinnacle Peak and Browns Ranch, take the kids and dogs to Doc Cavalliere park, or just drive down to see the horse ranches. So go get fresh sushi and eat there with beautiful views!
