I have eaten lunch and dinner here on numerous occasions and usually the food was good and the service as well. But today was in the area and decided to stop for breakfast. When we entered the restaurant there was a couple of men seated at the bar, and a older couple seated at a booth near the door. We sat and a waitress came after a couple of minutes and got our drink order and left us menus. As she returned with our drinks a lady sat down at the table beside us and the waitress spoke and then took our order. Just 2 of us me and my wife. After taking our order another waitress came out and asked the one lady that just sat where a couple of people she knew by name were. The lady replied they were on the way. And said she would wait for them to order. And she did. About 10 minutes passed and two other ladies came in and sat with the previous lady. Then the waitress that talked to her already came back and took the drink order. She said she would give them a few minutes to decide what they wanted. And she did just that. A few minutes passed she came back and they talked with her (the waitress) as if they were all friends. Finally they ordered. After about 20 minutes of being told nothing the waitress came out with three plates full of food. Grits, eggs, sausage, bacon, toast, full breakfast plates for all three ladies. Who ordered probably minimum of 10 minutes after me. I still was not told a thing so we got up and left. No one said by, kiss my a$$, or anything. So I decided to call to say my peace and go on about my day. The girl who answered the phone claimed to be manager when I asked to speak to someone in management. I explained who I was and before I got the whole complaint out of my mouth she said, that wasn't favoritism my food was sitting in the window they were going to bring it to me when they could....
Read moreDiscovered this restaurant a couple of years ago and started visiting once or twice a month(always in the evening) and even got takeout a few times when the dining room was closed due to the pandemic. It's a bit out of the way for me since I dont live in Semmes, but I enjoyed the food so it wasn't an issue.
A friend and I stopped by right at noon on 6/12/20. It was my suggestion to eat there. We waited at the door until the family in front of us was seated, then stepped in. We waited for over 5 minutes as every server that was working the floor walked by without ever acknowledging us. The servers behind the counter never acknowledged us either. My friend asked if we were supposed to seat ourselves. I was confused myself since this had never happened. We finally sat at the bar and waited another 3 to 5 minutes before were were acknowledged and given menus. During that time several other sets of customers came in and were immediately greeted by the serving staff and seated/given menus or asked to wait to be seated. It was bizarre. The server that did wait on us was about as cold and apathetic as she could be, despite acting friendly and welcoming to other guests. I was embarrassed and disappointed because it was my suggestion to eat there and the service was beyond terrible. The food tasted fine, even though we both ordered medium burgers that arrived very well done.
I've always had good things to say about Hickory Pit (Too), but this experience was unsettling. I've never felt so unwelcome in...
Read moreMy wife and I rarely get to go out but she had heard this was a good family place to eat and had wanted to go for over a month so we saved up to go. Let me say this it was lousy service, the waiter never even offered either of us a refill and when we had to ask another server to reheat our food we were already disappointed. My wife got a seafood plate with shrimp and crab claws, a baked potato, mac and cheesewith an extra side of rice and gravy because our babies eat off her plate. She nor either child could eat anything other than the potato. None of it tasted good at all! Even our appetizers of corn nuggets and fried pickles were still left although I will say the corn nuggets were pretty good. As far as my food the ribs were tough, the chicken was so hard I couldn't pry it off the bone, the garlic bread and pulled pork we all that I really ate. Don't waste your money going here if you want to actually eat the food you order or have enough drink to try and get thru said meal. Also my wife did say that she and my son had eaten a sausage biscuit a few weeks ago and it was...
