Red’s Bar & Grill 127 e. Railroad St. Sheffield IL 61361
Red’s is a typical looking neighborhood bar. The kind of place you would want to go and have some beers with your buddies, eat some food, and watch a game. It is also family friendly where you wouldn’t feel uncomfortable bringing your kids there for dinner. The staff are all friendly and work hard. Our waitress was great, even more impressive she was working her butt off being really pregnant.
The menu is typical bar fare. I asked our waitress for a suggestion. She offered several and I settled on Red’s Tenderloin. Red’s Tenderloin is a Breaded Pork Tenderloin with sautéed onions and red peppers, Swiss cheese, lettuce and roasted red pepper garlic sauce sandwich with fries. For all of my readers who always think I want to dump on restaurants, or for those of you who like when I do, I am going to write this with a small caveat. I like Red’s as a whole. I absolutely hated that sandwich.
Have ever been to a German restaurant and ordered jaeger schnitzel? Jaeger schnitzel is breaded pork for those of you who need somebody to read this to you. The batter is moist and delicate and the pork is tender and juicy. These pork tenderloins that have the very dry bread crumby coating and the lifeless pork by product center are crap. The sauce is actually an aioli, which is code for fancy mayonnaise. Take some red bell peppers and garlic, drop them in with a gallon of industrial strength mayo and blend. Ahh sauce, no not really… just flavored mayo. The problem was with the amount of “Red’s Sauce” that was on there. I tried to get some of it off of my sandwich but couldn’t find enough napkins to do so. I needed a mop but was embarrassed to ask for one. I had a wad of napkins bigger than a baseball so soaked in Hellman’s I went to the bathroom to throw it away to hide the evidence. Between the breaded fiber board and the gallon of mayo, I mean aioli, I mean Red’s Sauce, I just couldn’t do it.
I absolutely loved loved loved the bread pudding. Perfectly prepared, moist, and the flavor was spot on. The cinnamon icing was also perfect with four dollops of whipped cream. Pairs well with Budweiser I might add.
According to the Big Food Jerk.
I like Red’s Bar & Grill and I will go back. I don’t like Red’s Sauce, but you may have been raised on mayonnaise sandwiches and love it. Next time I will try something else. I encourage all of you to go there and try some of Red’s sauce and ridicule me for belittling...
Read moreI ordered the hand breaded pork tenderloin with sweet potato fries. The fries were crispy and not soggy at all. The pork tenderloin was crispy and the breading was flavorful, I didn't ketchup, mustard, salt... Nothing!! I. Just added a few pickles. One of the yummiest tenderloins I've had in awhile. My son got the Texan. He was able to get it cooked medium rare. He also got the season fries. He said most everything was perfect. The season fries were a bit overcooked for his tastes, but he ate everything. My dad got the Ruben sandwich and his wife got the patty melt. And they both said everything was very good!! We will be going back. Oh yes... We got the cheddar cheese cubes, which were hand dipped and very good, and we got the nachos, which I did not try because they did not...
Read moreWe did curbside pickup here over the weekend. The waitress, I think her name was Grace, gave us excellent service throughout the whole ordering process, via over the phone and then bringing the food and check out to the car. We ordered bacon cheeseburgers and onion rings, among other appetizers. The bacon cheeseburgers were outstanding, the kitchen did an excellent job in the preparation and delivery of the burgers. The onion rings were also outstanding. And the seasoned fries were also good. We will definitley return. The other thing that was very good was the packaging of the entire 'To Go' order. All the condiments and napkins were included. The whole experience was top notch, we...
