I am extremely disappointed to be writing this review as I have been to Stagecoach multiple times and had pleasant experiences in the past. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for my experience on NYE. I had booked one of the private rooms for my party over a month prior in November. Upon arriving the manager asked us to wait in the entry way of the restaurant while they got the table ready. After 20 minutes he informed us that the room was still occupied by an earlier party and that we would not be able to dine there. The manager did not offer an apology and hurriedly sat us in the porch room. This was disappointing as we were all looking forward to the private dining experience. The porch room was not insulated but had large heat lamps. Half of our party was either sweating under the heat lamps or freezing away from a heat lamp. Our food and drink order were taken and this is where everything really went downhill. Our drinks took over an hour to arrive as did the tuna tartare appetizer from the pre-fix menu. The second course also took about an hour to arrive. I had the lobster bisque and it arrived Ice cold. The final 2 courses were slightly better at 40 and 30 minutes,. For context our reservation was at 7:30, our dinner arrived after 10 pm, and we received the check at 11:23 pm. We had other plans on the night and this was incredibly inconvenient. Lastly the service was very poor, we were left alone for an hour at a time. No one checked in on our table, no one offered up an explanation for the long wait times, members of my party even had to go to the servers station to refill their water glasses. I attempted to find the manager to voice my concerns about the food timing and our later plans, yet he was no where to be found. Considering we were bumped from the private room and the wait time for food was unreasonably long, a simple check in would have gone a long way. There was no degree of customer service or hospitality whatsoever, instead it felt as if we were being ignored. As a local and someone who has been a repeat costumer I cannot justify returning or recommending stagecoach unless changes are made. We left disappointed and I walked out embarrassed having been the one who recommended and organized the dinner. I spent the car ride to our next destination apologizing to my friends for organizing our NYE dinner at Stagecoach. Our bill was around $150 per person which does not sit right considering...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I found the tavern during a scenic foliage drive. It was dark but none the less the quirky property drew is in and we found ourselves behind a historic inn and tavern on a stream lined with hammocks. It made us regret not packing just in case bags!
After exploring what felt like undiscovered territory calling to be exposed, we made our way to the restaurant. We were greeted warmly and seated right even though we didn’t have reservations. It was not to disappoint! Original wood floors that creak when the staff walk by, fireplaces with brick chimneys, and old school benches around low tables set the perfect backdrop for a simple, hearty, soul healing meal.
The menu was one page. I prefer this. A chef can perfect a handful of dishes and you know the ingredients will be fresh. In fact, a note on the menu informs diners that many ingredients are grown on the property.
We had a beet salad to share, a half brick chicken dinner and a flat iron steak that arrived perfectly sliced next to a bowl of the crunchiest on the outside, creamiest on the inside French fries. Each dish was perfection. You know that perfect balance of each ingredient that creates a dish with its own flavor and textures. A top ten restaurant in my book! Food arrived as ordered and in a timely fashion. We couldn’t resist dessert. We were so satisfied with our meals we took a tiramisu and another creamy pastry delight with raspberry. They didn’t last one second. We weren’t even out of the parking area and we were already trading bowls....
Read moreMy teenage niece and I stopped here last night based on a friend's recommendation. We had planned to go to our usual tried-and-true fish restaurant in Lee. But I've lived in the area for years and never knew that Race Brook lodge had a restaurant and wanted to check it out. My, what a treasure this restaurant is. Very rustic with eclectic décor that is both homey and welcoming. The service staff, Molly and Tess, matched the atmosphere, wanting us to feel at home from the moment we stepped in, encouraging us to sit wherever we wanted - which was in front of the fire even though the table there was a bit small for dinner. They were fine with it! The menu was limited but well crafted with delicious choices for omnivores (my niece) and vegetarians (me) alike. My niece was delighted they had salmon as it's her favorite dish -- she said it was the best she ever tasted. My dish was a very tasty risotto appetizer, which actually was an entrée portion. We both loved our starter -- field greens with goat cheese, pecans, and cherries. My niece remarked that although she still liked the other restaurant if we were in a rush, she preferred this one as it wasn't about moving customers in and out in a hurry, and the food was prepared just for us. The ambiance and service made for a much more "special" experience. Really, every little thing about the evening was perfect. Our compliments to everyone at the Stagecoach Tavern for bringing us such warmth on a raw, rainy...
