I wanted to take my husband out someplace special to celebrate his service in the Army. We live in Shelbyville, TN., so we must usually travel out of town for his Veteran’s discount. Since Humble Baron recently opened, we decided to try it out instead of going to the Boro or Tullahoma. Everything went great up to a point. The layout of the place was very well designed. No one was crowded and the bar is amazing. The lovely receptionist had us seat ourselves and our menus were provided. Once our server arrived, my husband asked if Veterans were offered a discount and she advised us that Veterans are honored every day at Nearest Green. My husband provided her with his ID and asked her which menu items were her favorites. She gave us her take and we decided to get the Smashburger with the Truffle Fries. We had been served water to drink. She did not ask if we preferred anything else to drink but I was fine with that as water if my beverage of choice. When our food arrived, the young gentleman asked if there was anything else he could get for us. My husband will only eat fries that are hot so he took one bite and asked if he could get a replacement with hot fries. The young man was very nice and quickly returned with another order of fries. We thanked him for his attention. AFTER THIS IS EVERYTHING WENT BADLY. We became persona non grata to our server. We were absolutely ignored. She took great interest in the other patrons but would not look in our direction. My husband got up at one point to ask her for water refills. She brought a glass bottle out to us, filled our glasses, and left the bottle on the bar for us. I can absolutely say, without a doubt that she ignored us because she did pass by us on several occasions and did not even look in our direction. The food was okay but I do not think a Smashburger and truffle fries are worth $19.99 a plate. Even with inflation the way it is today, I would have expected more for the amount charged for the food we were served. After finishing our meal and patiently waiting for our server to ask if we wanted anything else or if we were ready to pay our bill, my husband got up, walked the length of the three stools over to where she was standing in conversation with two other patrons, and ask her for our bill. She acknowledged him but did not bring the bill. Several minutes later, I interrupted her happy conversation with the same two patrons, and asked “Can we get our check?” She replied “I will be there in a minute”. Several minutes later, as I was about to go ask the lovely young lady at the reception desk for her assistance, our check was brought to us. My husband and I looked over the check. The total amount came to $43.88. There was not breakdown of the food items ordered. Only the bill plus tax was listed. Obviously, my husband did not receive the Veteran’s discount we discussed with our server. After looking at the copy, only to find that it was the same, we decided to cut our losses. My husband signed the bill and took our copy. On the way out, he stopped by the receptionist’s desk, gave her our copy, pointed out the server’s name and said “That server sucks!” During our visit at Humble Baron, not once did anyone from management came into the area to ask how everyone’s evening was going. We have had better service in a fast-food restaurant. This evening has been a great disappointment and has discouraged us from ever...
Read moreI love this place! The food is AMAZING!!! The atmosphere is Amazing!!! From entering through the entrance until you leave customer service is A+!!! My first time going was for the Black Rodeo and I’ve attended two times since then. I enjoy going to the events where there is a DJ.
My only feedback that I think Humble Baron should seriously consider is the layout of the place. Yes it is the longest bar but if there is an anticipation like the Black Rodeo or the All White Event where they anticipate being filled to capacity by looking at how many tickets sales are prior to the event, they may want to reconsider having accommodating seating.
We got there at a reasonable time and there was no place to sit. The stools that didn’t have a body in them had a paper or a handbag sitting there to reserve the seat. One lady had her butt covering 2 stools! a stationary stool and a stool she dragged out from somewhere to sit with her friends basically hoarding places to sit. My take is if you get up, you lose your seat. Why is this being allowed? It was like musical chairs in which adults were hoarding stools for either someone on the dance floor, somebody who has walked off, or someone who hasn’t arrived yet.
The dance floor is kind of small compared to the size of the room and if the bar only has around 200 stools and 300+ is in attendance who wants to stand up all night to eat drink and enjoy the atmosphere? Luckily, we found a flat surface to sit our drinks and food on to eat but I think in addition to stools and VIP tables the place definitely needs a more opened space for the dance floor and installing some booths. Booths can hold 3 on both sides and people can enjoy the atmosphere, eat, and have drinks and if they leave and come back, the group who they are with is still there without hoarding all the bar stools.
It is such a nice place with amazing staff but I can’t understand for the life of me why they haven’t looked into switching the layout to include extra seating. If it is a bar model was the ultimate goal but you are also serving food why not integrate it into the experience and include booth with tables for your guest without having to pay for a VIP experience so there is adequate seating so attendees can enjoy the atmosphere AND the...
Read moreI was disappointed on my first visit to this gorgeous property. From the outside looking in, this spot has all the makings of a great place to visit. There's ample parking, beautiful scenery, a giant photo-op wall, and rustic charm with a barn-styled architecture. However, the experience inside the bar/restaurant did not match the exterior charm. We went in for my birthday on a Saturday around 4 PM, definitely not peak hours. While the host stand girls were very welcoming, that’s where the pleasant experience began to decline. Initially, we sat at an open area of the impressively massive bar but were promptly told we’d need to pick a spot being serviced—fair enough. Unfortunately, the service was sparse and we felt rushed to make a decision. We tried to make small talk, as one might do at a bar, only to be met with very little engagement. Out of the four people who spoke with us, only Jasmine was overtly pleasant, but that was only a brief interaction in passing. The primary server seemingly had no interest in us as guests, appeared incredibly distracted, and quickly moved on to others upon her realizing we wouldn’t be ordering food. My wife, who is newly pregnant, could only enjoy a virgin drink, and the bartender didn’t clarify if/what she was making for her. My friend was also rushed into making a decision on his order. While his drink was strong and he didn't mind, it definitely soured the mood. Of the four or five drinks on draft, one of the three beers was tapped out (before dinner on a Saturday), which was disappointing. Having worked in food service for years, I found the food to be overpriced for what you get (i.e $17 for a basic two-patty burger and trimmings). Between that and the lackluster service, we were quickly uninterested in dining or staying longer than our one drink each. All that being said, if you're outside on the grounds, it’s absolutely beautiful. But if you're in the bar/restaurant, be prepared to spend a hefty amount and risk...
