Ok, I realize from reading the other reviews, I’m one of the very few that didn’t appreciate my meal as most others have. First, the positive. I absolutely love the atmosphere. I’m 53 years old and I’m very much into the vintage scene. This was like walking out of a time machine and into the restaurant around 1978. (In a good way) the building, the landscaping every aspect makes you feel like you’re in a different time when the world was friendlier. We will return for atmosphere alone. The only disappointment was that I’d heard so much about this place, I guess my expectations were too high. I ordered the T-bone (medium) $29. It was only about 1/3 inch thick, it did come out medium, but it was so thin, the pink middle was barely visible and wouldn’t have mattered if I had ordered it well done would have tasted the same (average) when asked if I needed any sauce I of course said no....who orders steak sauce at a great steak place?......well, I have to say that I would have loved some Worcestershire sauce after the first few bites. The baked potato was good, plain nothing fancy, it didn’t bother me that the sour cream came in a tube package like it did a few other reviewers & the patron next to us the we had been speaking with. The salad bar was very fresh, clean and good. I did notice that the wait staff was asking all of the regulars around us if they wanted bread, all said no....I will save them the waste next time too as it was nothing special. The place was filling up (a Wednesday evening) and you could tell it was local, regulars who were all well dressed...again, great atmosphere. I suppose I’m steak spoiled, but I’d heard this place was known for just that. Walmart doesn’t even sell a steak as thin as my T-bone was. I usually buy steaks at Harter House & I was expecting something similar. As bad as my experience sounds, we absolutely will return if not for any other reason than the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, based on how much other reviewers enjoyed it. Next time, I’ll try another menu item and just enjoy the old time restaurant ambiance. By the way, I’ve paid more than double for a great steak before, so I’m not complaining about the $29 price other than it seemed like a $10.99 truck stop special steak dinner. Sorry.....I have to be honest. And again, I see that I’m definitely the odd man out...
Read moreFirst, know that there are no prices on menu as others have stated in reviews, they will tell you - you should have asked. But when you are entertaining or with other people, it seems cheap to ask the waitress for prices. Menu states steaks come with a loaded baked potato. Potato was scrawny and had nothing on it. When ask about the loaded part of it we were told we could get cheese, bacon, bits, and onions at the salad bar . Cheese was a block so what you are left with is a big slice of cheddar cheese. Onions were whole so you had to take them back to your table and cut them Sour cream comes in a little tube. as others have stated you could wait in line for 15 to 20 minutes to get your fixings for your potato while your food got cold. I would not sell them as loaded. Absolutely the worst margarita I have ever had. There were four of us and no one wanted it so we paid for a margarita that no one drank. Service was lackluster saw the waitress upon ordering once to follow up, and to present the bill. The excuse is always we’ve been in business for 48 years but keep in mind that is because there is nowhere else to go. Since they are successful, they make no attempt at having the best of anything other than the steaks. The other items are just to get them by. If you order the stuffed shrimp, keep in mind it will likely not be what you’re expecting. It is a deep fried shrimp With melted cheese on the inside. The bread was delicious , it comes out with your food so really did not get to enjoy it. It should come out with your salad while you wait for your food. I hope this place is around another 48 years, but if they don’t make some changes as others has suggested in the reviews, don’t count on it. Institutions should not rely on their past to dictate their futures. Some of the best restaurants around, have closed because of their unwillingness to adapt. The thing that really got me was no menu prices. Print off paper menus as prices change. Even if you have to do it once a week. They need to read the reviews as this is the main sticking point for other peoples comments. I have only been five times over the last few years, but will not be going back. Wait for it………. The snarky response from the owner. That...
Read moreWe went to Steak Inn for the first time. Been wanting to go for years, finally went to see if it was as good we've heard. It was like a trip back in time. From a giant block of cheese at the salad bar to the big parsley leaf on every plate and bread and butter brought to every table. Old school! 👍 All four of us had sirloin steak, two of us had 6oz with shrimp, one an 8oz and I had the 11oz. My steak had an excellent seasoning, tender and was cooked perfect medium, loved it! Two others were suppose to be med but were a tad over cooked and tough, though seasoned well. One was suppose to be med-rare but was overcooked and very tough. You could see it was very tough. The two that had shrimp loved it! All other sides were good. One of us ordered coffee, it came out room temperature. She informed the server and was offered a warm up. She said no, it's cold, I would prefer a new cup. They brought another cup of cold coffee. We told the server that they may have a problem with the coffee maker. They brought a 3rd cup. The cup and the coffee were hot, probably put it in a microwave. Which was fine, better than cold coffee. Lol Over all it was a decent meal, $20-$25/ person. The place was nice and clean. We sat in a room with a window wall, nice view. Others sat in booths with people constantly standing over them in line for the salad bar. They probably weren't as comfortable. One other thing- Steak Inn, like everyone else in this economy has had to raise their prices, understandable. But they had stickers over all the prices in the menu with a note saying ask your server what the prices are. 🙄 I wasn't going to have my server stand there while I ask How much is this? How much is this? How about this? These? The sides? 😔 So we just ordered and waited for the suprise! Lol C'mon, I would have rather had a paper menu with prices. How much easier would that have been just to print cheap menus on paper? Anyway, it was a good meal, at least I had a good steak. I will go with 4 stars, though others at my table may have been stuck with tougher steak, cold coffee and only 3 stars. Neat place, friendly staff,...
