Chat & Chew — Restaurant in Shiprock Agency

We have been driving past the Chat an Chew a couple of times a year for the past twenty-five years, and every time we drove by, I said that "we really need to give that little place a try... someday." Well, the day finally arrived. Last night while at home in Farmington and on a whim, I invited my wife "out for a comfortable, casual lunch." I really should be "whimsical" more often! After reading some of the more recent negative reviews, I almost talked myself out of it and opt for a "Durango casual" lunch, but then... twenty-five years of wondering...really? 🤔🙄 Honestly, if it were bad, I wouldn't have to go back...right? 🤨 So anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and my opinion is that there are people among us, who aren't really happy unless they're mad about something. 😡 Well, we arrived at a busy period during lunch, were met with a smile, had our orders taken and drinks served in an efficient and effective manner, and were told to pop back into the building in about ten minutes, and our order would be ready...and it was...badabing badaboom! 💥 The food? We both opted for the "Cheeseburger Combo," which came with an order of fries and a medium drink (according to the photos of the menu, which were posted in reviews three years ago, the prices haven't increased an iota! Have you ever dreamed of such a thing?). The burger itself could easily be described as a "Goldilocks burger"... not too big...not too small... just right. It was served on a beautifully toasted egg dough bun, which held up to the condiments and toppings to the very last bite. The meat itself was, in my opinion, grilled to perfection...cooked thoroughly but still moist and juicy...the lady working the grill has obviously "flipped a burger or two!" I have happily added the Chat an Chew to my list (again... my opinion) of one of the best burgers in the land. And me? I'm never mad when I'm happy about...

This place has really gotten bad. Food is still the same but the customer service is completely missing. They don’t have posted hours and they close shop whenever they want to. We pulled up on a Friday evening at 5:50 and found out they had just closed with no signage posted. We had been planning on getting dinner from here for a few days and just got off from work in Farmington. We drove down to be met with this nonsense. The hours of operation on their sign is completely incorrect. We tried calling our orders in early but were met with a busy tone every time. We asked about this and were told their phones aren’t working. We talked to the staff inside and they said they couldn’t help us at all with dinner and did not offer an explanation or an apology. I haven't had this place in 5 plus years, loved it when I was small. Overall, I was pretty happy with my jumbo burger with everything, tasted pretty good, fries were good, my drink (a coke) tasted good. I do wish they would accept card/electronic payments. Its still cash only. I didn't have any issues with the staff. A bit much on covid precautions but I understand, this area was hit hard by covid and in my view there's nothing wrong with keeping their staff safe.
