I've been coming to monkhouse seafood before they were in their new locations since 2009 and I've always loved their coleslaw and their fried catfish well it's been about 3 years since I've been there due to pandemic and health problems now that I'm finally back out and about decided to say I'm going to go back and have me some of that good old fish and my coleslaw man they made the best coleslaw well I guess times have changed because the coleslaw was dry I looked for the sauce that was supposed to be on it but it was just like wet and the fish smelled a little burnt but that wasn't the problem it was flavorless and no seasoning nobody put tartar sauce in nobody gave me salt nobody asked me if I wanted any condiments I was just handed the thing like I always do expecting it to be inside no hush puppies come on now you eat fishy with hush puppies but all I got was the fish and yes it was plenty of it they're three piece is very large come prepared to be full but come on monkhouse can we put a little bit of seasoning on there or at least offer somebody some seasoning y'all are still my favorite but I'm only giving you two stars on this visit come on earn those stars back can I have my old coleslaw back the kind that had sauce and was creamy not...

I had to go to shrevework on a business trip. And ultimately I did not have a very good experience overall. Initially I went 21 restaurant it was treated so rudely that I just left. I was told by a local that there was another restaurant that I should try out. And it was monk house seafood. I put it in the g p s and I made it. Kind of disappointed in my whole experience in Shreveport. Up to this point I was greeted by a friendly gentleman behind the desk. Who could obviously tell that I wasn't in the best of spirits. He imparted some very kind words to me and assured me that while I was there , I would be treat it like family. The menu wasn't exactly what I expected. It to be but I had traveled so far , that I decided that I would get something. I got a bowl of gumbo which was served with rice and he brought it to my table. The gumbo was okay. And I wasn't disappointed with it. However , the gentleman that was at the front desk was very kind to me and probably the most kind and positive person that I met in my entire time in shreveport. He really made my day. I don't remember the gentleman's name but I do remember that he was haitian. I told him that if I was ever back that way again , that I would definitely come back just because of the...

I heard they had been around for around or more than 20 years. I had a relative explain that back then when she first tried it, they were very stingy with placing only three to four shrimp in a poboy. We decided to try to it again, only this was my first time. Traffic of customers was slightly heavy but we weren't smothered at all.

No one really welcomed us in. When we got to the counter, they were having some trouble with money exchanged. The storm that had come and gone had knocked out their phone line as well as their credit card machine. So, this explained why I called several times and got no answer. Luckily, there was an ATM right next door. However, as I and my mother were just standing there, nobody at the counter said a word to let us know what was going on. When it was our turn, the cashier was very kind and careful with our orders. It took about a fifteen-minute wait.

When we got home with the food, my mother could barely sit down. She was eating while standing up. Her poboy was so packed that you had to eat some of the shrimp alone first. Shrimp fried rice was okay, shrimp okay, but I didn't really enjoy the rice the gravy. Overall, this store is a plus. Just wish they polish on customer service...

First, Monkhouse Diner has moved across the street from where they were previously located. They are now at 5116 Monkhouse Drive. They may also be changing their name, the sign on the front of the entrance is: Monkhouse Soul and Seafood. We were staying in the area read good reviews but almost missed their new location which is much more spacious! We didn't have time to stay and dine, but had to take the order to go. The dining room was spotless. And while you order at the counter, your meal is delivered to your table if dining in house. They do seem to do a lot of carryout orders too. We had the Real Fish Sandwich and Pork Chop Sandwich with fries. Simple fare, but excellent flavor and so reasonably priced! The Real Fish sandwich was described as a cod fish fillet with all the fixings. The sandwich actually included two delicious fillets on a toasted sesame seed bun. The pork chop sandwich was described as small, I assure you it was a very hearty sandwich and tasty. The fries were perfectly seasoned. A neighborhood restaurant that should be on your list to visit if you are in the area.

I was craving a po’ boy and Monkhouse came up as the top result of a search, and after the front desk of the hotel also recommended it, we tried it out. It is an unpretentious location that may cause some to pause, but the food more than makes up for the place’s appearances. I had the alligator and shrimp po’ boy, which is made with alligator sausage and grilled shrimp, which was huge! The fries had a generous dusting of Cajun seasoning. Beyond the great food, the staff were amazing, and the owner makes you feel like old friends (which was apparently true as most customers he greeted by name).
