One of the few Perks and Joys of working out of town and having to travel and be away from home for weeks at a time is getting to see and find new places to eat and all that town has to offer. Some are better than others and some you dont care to see again and some you cant wait to get back to. Siler City is def one of those when I leave I cant wait to go back to! As far as attractions.. things to do or nightlife.. it would prob score a "0" but in this lil quiet sleepy town out in the middle of nowheresville next to an old van in a cowpasture is a lil red brick building that will make you glad you found this part of the country. If you are not looking you would surely pass it by and miss oit on some of the best BBQ in NC ! It rained us out today Thursday August 10th 2023 and we left the jobsite around 11am so I went back to the Hotel got in a 2hr nap and woke up anround 4pm in the mood for some BBQ.. Brisket and Sausages. I had seen the name "The Broken Spit" pop up on my gps maps while looking for places to eat but for some reason passed it up and overlooked it for the last 2 months I been in Siler City. BIG MISTAKE! I made that my destination to have dinner this evening and wish I would have went there the first weekend I was in town. I walked into the lil red brick building and was greeted by a friendly young waitress and was told to sit wherever I liked as the place was slow and only a few customers leaving with take out orders. I sat down and ordered a sweet tea and the Combo Platter as I wanted to try a lil bit of it all. The food was out fairly quick and everything was GREAT! Not just "ok yea this is pretty good" but GREAT! Brisket was Juicy.. Chicken was crispy and flavorful and the Ribs were falling of the bone. The Pulled Pork was mouthwatering and paired perfectly with the Spicy Carolina Sauce that was my fav of the bunch and the Sweet Cornbread was soft and moist. I now have 2 togo boxes that I will pick on the rest of the evening and prob finish for lunch tomorrow but I just felt I really needed to let everyone else know if you are EVER passing through Siler City NC or just want to take a short road trip to a Great place to eat... you can thank me later and stop in at The Broken Spit @ 2734 Old U.S. Hwy 421 N, Siler...
Read moreThe Broken Spit is an older version restaurant that is easy to find off of a two lane road on the outskirts of the town its located in. The decor fits the theme of one being out in the country. The tables and seatings are very comfortable. Upon entering the establishment we were greeted by the waitress who was very professional and attentive to the customers. The foods may be considered slightly pricey and meals may not be what one could perceive as a complete meal. With that being said, I want to encourage people who love barbecue to make the trip there. We took the trip from Raleigh, which was approximately 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. I have eaten at MANY barbecue places and here I am at age 67 years, and this is by far the BEST barbecue that I've eaten. I ordered 1/2 rack of pork ribs with the sweet barbecue sauce. The meat just slid off of the bones. I was just in awe. I asked the lady who waited on us if they cooked the meat themselves or did they import them. She said that they barbecue all of their meals, with the exception of the apple/peach cobbler. My wife had the pull pork sandwich which came with one side, and she chose onion rings. That was the largest pulled pork sandwich that I have ever seen and the meat was outstanding in taste. There was so much meat that my wife took at least 1/3 of the meat home. I also couldn't eat all of the ribs. Also, there were no fatty fat pieces of fat that some places use to beef up volume. Our Granddaughter ordered mac and cheese and cheese waffle fries. Another grand slam here as our Granddaughter said that it was very delicious and the cheese fries were outstanding, as I can vouch for that as she allowed me to get 2 pieces of fries. Again there was so much food that she had to take the rest home. Please consider taking a trip to the Broken Spit. I will return at another date with some friends so that they can experience the quality foods and superb service that we experienced. Googling the name of this establishment will give you the town it...
Read more$55/60 for two people to eat if you get a drink. If youâre looking at your budget thatâs about how much it will cost you. I called ahead of ordering to make sure hush puppies were going to be included with our meals, drive 20 minutes there and 20 minutes backâŚgot home, NO HUSHPUPPIES. Pick up was easy, but forgotten items or false information is unforgivable. The macaroni and cheese was the best Iâve had at any restaurant other than The Oak in Raleigh. The baked beans are also very good, but a little too heavy on the smoky side. My spouse really liked the ribs, however I wasnât aware that western sauce would actually be poured onto the ribs into the to go container, very messy and very watery. Western sauce is very thin, so usually most restaurants put it in a dip cup. Not the case here. The Brussels sprouts, also extremely good. The pulled pork was great, by itself. The most important part of the entire bbq experience is the sauce, and their western sauce needs help. It was more eastern (even though they have an eastern sauce) if youâre accustomed to short sugars, hurseys, Henry James, any of the long standing local amazing bbq places. You will not like this âwesternâ style sauce. Itâs heavy on the vinegar, and falls way short on flavor spice and sweetness. Itâs basically red vinegar. Aside from the higher prices, not so great sauce, and the forgotten hush puppies the food was palatable, and I would consider going back..however me and my spouse both were stricken with terrible headaches about half an hour after finishing the food, both of us are sensitive to MSG. Itâs the only explanation I could find being we both got a pretty intense headache after. Not to say that they use it, but if you have any sensitivities Iâd...
