Had an absolute blast at Seb-Seb – this Ethiopian spot is a hidden gem that left us speechless! The moment we walked in, it felt like we stepped into our own cozy living room – minimal seating, but a nice bar, and two big screens giving off those laid-back lounge feels.
Now, let's talk about the food. We went for the Veggie Deluxe Combo, a feast of yellow peas, split lentils, kale, carrots, potatoes, black beans, red beets, cabbage, green beans, and salads. Seriously, each bite felt like a quick trip to Ethiopia, and the freshness of every ingredient made it taste like a home-cooked meal.
Then came the Doro Wot – chicken legs simmered in a sauce with boiled eggs. Spicy, tender, and oh-so-delightful. And the Lega Tibs – sautéed beef with onion, jalapeno, tomato – it was so good that our taste buds demanded an encore.
Big shoutout to the Seb-Seb crew – they took the experience to a whole new level. The owner was incredibly warm and friendly, making us feel right at home. The staff was super attentive, knew the menu inside out, and their recommendation of honey wine was spot-on, perfectly complementing our meal.
Seb-Seb is a true gem and a must-try. Whether you're an Ethiopian cuisine fanatic or just up for something new, this spot is a game-changer. Incredible food, a friendly staff, and that warm vibe – it's perfect for a laid-back night out or catching a game with friends. Our first Ethiopian food experience here was beyond amazing, and we're already counting down the days for round two. Trust me, you don't want to miss out – highly...
Read moreIf you're reading this you're struggling with how to differentiate among 6 local Ethiopian restaurants with 4.5 stars. I haven't been to the others but what I can tell you is how completely and thoroughly my son and I were delighted by Sebseb. We loved the on-the-corner, neighborhood ambiance; the beautiful jazz playing overhead; and the charm, sincerity, and skill of the hostess and waitress. We each got the veggie deluxe combination - - 8 half-cup servings of different lentils, beets, cabbage, greens, and stringbeans (I just took the leftovers out of the fridge to name them accurately and OMG, they smell heavenly!) - - and some thinner-than-expected, hand-made by a relative, gluten-free injera that made it especially easy to scoop up the veggies. How wonderful was the veggie deluxe combo? 11 out of a possible 10. Incredibly, each veggie was differently seasoned and each was delicious in its unique way. We learned from the hostess that she cooks and seasons each veggie freshly each day, which I'm sure accounts for the extraordinary satisfaction of this beautiful, tasty, and healthful dish.
I'm sure the other Ethiopian restaurants are yummy (are we lucky in Silver Spring or what?) but I'm not even going to try anywhere else until I taste a number of their other dishes. You will be so satisfied, happy, and full of deliciousness after you sample the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for real, authentic Ethiopian food—not the watered-down version—this is the spot! I had the doro wat, and wow, I was honestly blown away. Anyone who knows this dish understands how much time and effort goes into making it right. So many places claim to have doro wat, but what they really serve is just tomato sauce with some spices. This, though? This was the real deal. The service was just as amazing. When I walked in to pick up my order, the lady was making traditional Ethiopian coffee, and she warmly offered me a cup on the house—which, of course, I wasn’t about to turn down! It was such a kind and welcoming gesture that made the experience even better. This place is a little tucked away, not right on the main street or near other Ethiopian restaurants, but trust me, it’s absolutely worth the trip....
