TL;DR: Small and cozy with solid service and a pub feel that gets better the closer you get to the fireplace. It leans a bit more âIrish theme nightâ than âIrish tradition,â but the barroom itself carries most of the charm. Worth a visit if youâre nearby and in the mood for a quiet pint and a warm seat.
Farleyâs makes a decent first impression. It is smaller in size, clearly aiming for a cozy Irish pub atmosphere. The layout is tight but comfortable, and itâs well staffed with a team thatâs attentive without being overbearing. Service was smooth throughout, and that alone puts it ahead of a lot of similar places.
The decor feels like it came more from a catalog than a collected history. Itâs Irish in theme, but not particularly lived-in so its more "newly minted charm" than "well-worn character." That said, the barroom architecture itself is the standout feature. The black exposed beams, large fireplace, and ornate windows give it a much more authentic feel â almost like a tucked-away pub youâd stumble into on a damp afternoon abroad.
Food-wise, The fried pickle chips were thicker than expected. Not quite what Iâm used to but they were fresh and well-prepared, which goes a long way and still very good. The house amber ale was a pleasant surprise: balanced, flavorful, and an easy reorder. Ill have to try some other house beers. The specialty cocktail sounded better than it tasted â not bad, just not especially memorable.
While I didnât go for a full meal, I appreciated the small handmade chocolate offered at the end. Its a thoughtful touch that adds a little warmth and personal mom&pop touch to the experience.
Thereâs potential here, especially if the place continues to age into and find itself. For now, itâs a decent option with a few bright spots, and a setting thatâs worth seeing once, even if it hasnât quite found...

This particular day that I ate here happened to be their 100th day in business here. Mr Farley was walking around from table to table thanking customers for supporting their restaurant.
If the picture is showing properly, I had one of the best Reuben sandwiches I've ever eaten. Most places just barely toast the bread, but it was extra crispy here. That crunch of the bread really compliments the juiciness of the rest of the sandwich. The corned beef was flavorful, and the sauerkraut had a nice bite to it. It had just enough dressing, but wasn't swimming in it.
The Industrial Arts Wrench I got on tap was a beautiful IPA that perfectly complemented my sandwich.
And while most people would not think to give attention to french fries, these were probably the best seasoned fries I've had in ages. Cooked perfectly, crisp but not overdone.
My wife had a burger (not pictured) and the beef was quite flavorful.
One of my family members is gluten-free and they do have gluten-free options also, which is always a plus!
All of this and very competitively priced with other local offerings....
Read moreFarley Mac's is an Irish restaurant located in Simsbury, CT serving pub, comfort, and American food. The parking lot was spacious and the restaurant looks like it used to be a historic home. My family and I went there for lunch on a Saturday.
There was a dining room with a bar and large fireplace. We sat at the first dining room. It was cozy and definitely seemed to have regulars there. I appreciate that they had a kids menu and high chairs for my children. The menu had a good selection of food and drinks; they even had a great happy hour menu and daily drink specials.
On this visit, I started off with a fig Cosmo drink, wow, that was delicious. For my meal, I had the Shepard's pie which came with seasoned meat, corn, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and cheddar jack cheese. My kids had Mac and cheese and fries. My husband had the blueberry smash drink and the San Fran Sandwich which came with turkey, arugula, herb mayonnaise, Monterey Jack cheese, and bacon on grilled sourdough bread; he said it was good.
The service was friendly and expedient. Overall, my family enjoyed the food and drinks; we would...
