â 1 Star Absolutely Not the "Tastee" Experience We ExpectedâŠ
My friend was starving on her birthday road trip through Oklahoma, and we decided to stop at Tastees Freeze, thinking itâd be a nostalgic, small-town drive-in gem like the ones we grew up on. Big mistake.
First red flag? She had to use the bathroomâbecause, ya know, road tripâbut there was no soap, the toilet wouldnât flush, and the staff inside were yelling like they were in a sports bar, not a food joint. She ditched the lobby and opted for the drive-thru instead. Spoiler: that wasnât any better.
It took TWENTY MINUTES just to get through the drive-thru line, and after placing the order, the staff slammed the window shut mid-question when we asked where we should park while waiting. Rude. We then sat in the lot for 42 minutes before anyone came outâwith only a quarter of our order and a half-melted, sad little cone. (Pro tip: donât fall for the âflavor coneâ hypeâitâs just two weak syrup drizzles over basic vanilla.)
When they finally brought out more food, it still wasnât right. In fact, they gave us items that werenât even on the receipt. On round three, we almost had everythingâexcept condiments, requested extras, and my friendâs shake, which they claimed was just âsitting in the back.â Another 12-minute wait later, we finally hit the road, hoping the food would redeem the chaos.
It didnât.
The food was stone cold. The cheese fries? A jokeâcold fries with a sad square of cheese melted just enough to become a waxy blob at the bottom of the bag. The burger was mushy, with overripe toppings and bland meat. Even the kidsâ meal was crusty and cold. The jalapeño poppers were okay, but nothing youâd go out of your way forâand definitely not worth that wait.
Between the dirty environment, chaotic service, long delays, and truly disappointing food, this was hands-down one of the worst hometown diner/drive-in setups weâve ever experienced. Skip it. There are gas station snacks thatâll...
Read moreIt is a sad day when I must write a review like this about a place I worked at for several years straight out of High School. Today at approx. 7:30PM, I rode my motorcycle to The Freeze to get a medium Pepsi. That is all I wanted. I walk in and a family of 4 was ordering some ice cream. There were 2 young girls up front and several people working in the back area (like 4 people). After the family ordered the ice cream, the girls went to town making their order. Fair enough. There were several times that people from the back came up front to get something or one blonde girl even came up to talk to a "friend" that was sitting at one of the front tables. Asked him if he had a drink or something to that nature... EVERY SINGLE TIME someone came up front from the back, no one even acknowledged that I was standing right there watching them all. They all avoided contact... I sit and was staring right out one of the girls in the back and she just kept talking to the other worker... Finally, one of the girls working up front (brown hair with blonde streaks in the front) eventually came over and greeted me and apologized, saying it would be just a minute she had to make some ice cream really quick. I said that's fine but pretty sure she knew that I was thinking why on earth has no one helped me yet? Besides the friend sitting up front, there were 2 other girls waiting on a 2-go order, the family and then me. There was no one else in the entire place except for the drive-thru orders. When the girl came back to me and asked what she could get for me, I said a medium Pepsi. I believe her to be a little surprised that was all I needed and I had that within a minute! Needless to say, I waited 10 minutes for a drink! There is NO WAY that would have been acceptable back in the day... I even thought of walking but I do love their ice. Just needs some work on teaching the younger fen about customer service and I am sure everything...
Read moreIf you are new to Skiatook and want a good burger, 9/10 of the locals will tell you this is the best burger. Possibly in the world! It's not. At best this is place that you go eat at when you are tired of McDonalds and want to flex your money. Don't expect customer service to be a selling point either. When my wife and I walked in and to the counter to order, someone came in after us to jump into the front of the line, said their order and the woman working said "You got it Mr. --!" and run him up. AS WE WERE IN THE PROCESS OF ORDERING. So I guess this place has a secret hierarchy of customers that I was unaware of. We also were never asked if we were through ordering, instead after we ordered an item, it was "you total will be --". I was trying to add drinks and some sides for my wife and I eventually gave up on anything past that because the worker kept rolling her eyes everytime I added to the order. When I got to order, I ordered a regular burger, which was basically a jumbo slider. Between the heavy amounts of mustard and mayonnaise I didn't realize that my patty was not only slightly thicker than a credit card, it was also charred to a hockey puck. My wife ordered a salad, which had veggies, so I guess it qualified. It was shredded bag lettuce with 1 cherry tomato that was cut into 4's. With chicken that was "grilled" so much that it was almost as charred as my patty. We had a side of fries and cheddar bites. The fries were the best part of the meal. Mainly because they were so heavily dipped in grease they just kind of glided down as you at them. The Cheddar bites were pretty much still frozen, so they seem like they were living up to name of Tastee Freez. If you want a good burger, this isn't the place. You are better of just driving past it for about half a mile and going to either...
