It's not the best bbq I've had but it was edible. All of the meats that I've tried and my friends tried were dry and bland. The sides were bland as well. I've tried them twice just to be sure. Update... Let me start this by saying that I've been smoking and grilling for a good 23 years. I've tried alot of bbq in my day. Some good really good and some really bad. I've messed up some of my own as well. With that being said, I don't know how the rating for this place is so high unless they are fake reviews or people just don't know what good, flavorful bbq is. This is my 3rd time trying this place and it was the same experience as the last 2 tries. The ribs were not dry this time but very greasy. Not juicy by any means but just greasy. They were also bland as before. This time, there was a heavy taste of a bad fire in the smoker. Meaning, it wasn't a clean burning fire. I could not finish the ribs. It had a wood smolder taste to the meat. Its was almost like i could taste the chemicals in the charcoal if any was used. I've driven by on numerous occasions and saw the ton of white smoke coming out of the chimney stack. On a good note, the ribs were tender. The pulled pork was bland and tasteless also like before. Sauce was definitely needed to give the meats flavor. The slaw was good.

Finally tried this place and was not disappointed! The place is quite small and cozy with the smell of barbecue and cornbread in the air so walking in the door you’re immediately sold on the place. The menus at the table aren’t as detailed as they should be (oddly the takeout and website menus are more detailed) but the staff is happy to answer questions and the prices are fair. They’ve got brisket, pulled pork, catfish and chicken and it all sounds amazing! I tried the brisket with the baked beans and Mac and cheese and it was incredible. Portions were very good and the beans are some of the best I’ve ever had! They throw in cornbread that’s cooked like small pancakes rather than squares or muffins and they’re perfect for dipping or cutting and scooping onto a fork full of brisket and beans. I left full and satisfied with only one minor complaint. Sodas are bottled with no free refills which is kind of a drag. I think it would be nice if they could get a fountain but this is helped by the fact that teas and coffee have free refills so there’s not too much to complain about. To be honest this is the best barbecue for the money I’ve found in Smyrna so far and will definitely recommend to friends.

Pretty good, clean and quaint place. Our family shared the sampler platter - the shredded chicken was hard and cold (kids wouldn't touch it), the sausage was flavorful and juicy, the ribs, smoked wings, pulled pork were good, the pork chop was good too just a bit salty. The cornbread cakes (look like pancakes were sooooooo good, possibly my favorite menu item) The loaded potato (plain) was good but disappointed it was served just above lukewarm. The Mac n cheese was very good and creamy. The greens were delicious with the vinegar. The baked beans resembled the taste of canned pork and beans - that sweet flavor. The green beans were overly salted and they use the flat variety which have a different flavor than traditional round ones - least favorite item. Didn't have room for dessert but they looked homemade and decent. Overall good and would come back if in area.

Found this place after trying JJs , Martin's and bbcuties... hands down better than Martin's but I think folks coming here probably know better than try Martins. Better than JJs too.

So, after skimming the reviews I picked Kinfolks . Family pack pulled pork beans and slaw. Cornbread. Got some fried chicken as it was that time of the month. Out of puddin.

Pulled pork, looked good! Tasted pretty good. When I got back home (40minutes away) I noticed I didn't get any sauce. The lady asked me mild or the other option and I said mild... gimme that mild sauce. But I got none. So, I gotta rate the pork about a 3.5 because sauce is the boss. Luckily I had some bottled Jim and Nicks. But if I wanted J&N I would have hit them up. Jussayin

Cornbread seemed a little dry and while I liked the sweet my spouse wasn't much on it. I think the dryness got her .

Slaw was really good. Prefer slaw that's finer . Also prefer a more of a vinegar base slaw but would get this again.

Bakes beans, spouse disliked the beef in them , especially when we order pulled pork at a BBQ joint. I didn't mind. Tasted good. Just tickled they didn't serve up canned beans like most do.

The fried chicken , well... look at this way.. the less I order means more for you!

Overall, I really wish I had checked my bag. It's really not my job BUT way less stressful than realizing 40 minutes after the store closed I didn't have any sauce lol.

That makes my last point. One review I found noted they pulled up before closing and someone was cooking outside. However they where told the store was closed. I called around 7pm , placed order over phone, drove over and picked it up. Went in the side door. Couple pulled up and came in behind me. They where politely told the restaurant was closed. I felt bad and worse when I carried my meals out as they where leaving... just call and confirm,...

Where do you do to get premium flavored BBQ at a down-home price?  Kinfolks BBQ!

We found this restaurant a few years ago and have not gone back to the corporate BBQ chain restaurants ever again! (yes, we love some of them, but the price$ are too high)  Kinfolks is reasonable AND I love it that way!  So don't go getting big city like on us, Kinfolks BBQ!

We usually order a lot of food at a time and Kinfolks has always delivered with consistent flavoring and results.  Results beyond the restaurant.  Like when family members tell you the BBQ is amazing and ask where it came from.  That's the results I love.

Normally we order 1 lb of Pulled Pork, 1 lb of Pull Chicken, 1 lb of Beef Bricket, and 1 full side of ribs.  Depending on the number of people we serve at a party we have comfortably fed 10, with some leftovers for lunch for 2-3 the next day.

If I were feeding over 10-16, I would step up to 1.5 lbs of Pulled Pork, 1.5 lbs of Pull Chicken, and add another side to the order.

Your mileage may vary.  That's just been my experience with the portions and # of people we have.  Of course, we also have more sides at home; such as potato salad, cake, ice cream, and watermelon.

Bottom line: Kinfolks BBQ has always filled our order with delicious meats and our parties have always gone well.  Thank you for being there for us...

Their chicken and sides are great. My only complaints are about the corn cobs and desserts. Corn cob tastes like smokey hot water, they're also pretty hard too.Their desserts ESPECIALLY THE STRAWBERRY cake tastes like soap/perfume and that's consistent. My bf likes to surprise me with their cake because I love strawberry cake! He knows they tastes like soap but we try to give them a chance in hopes that they fixed the problem but they havent. It's been two years of the soap cakes. So we gave them a break. I'm currently eating one. He surprised me yesterday with one and guess what. Yes, still tastes like soap. Not sure if they're making their cakes near an air freshener, in the laundry room or are using soap but they need to fix this.

Edit: haha it's not my taste buds. I have let other members of the fam and friends try the cake and they can taste it too. The taste is damn near impossible to miss. It's so strong! Customers are being nice. When they should be honest. You use have the best strawberry cake but now they taste like soap/perfume theres no mistake in that. Please if you're not making the cakes near soap please remove the strong air fresheners in the room.

If anyone else has experienced the soap cakes please I encourage you to speak up. Maybe then she will consider...
