I hate to give a bad review for this place because my first experience was so good. I really like the flavor of the chicken, and it's hard to find a good hot chicken place that's not downtown. Today was the worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant, and I was probably better off going to the taco truck.
We came in on our work lunch break (an hour) around 12 PM with only one person that ordered ahead of us. There were others that were sitting inside eating and maybe 2 people waiting for food. We asked how long it would take to prepare the food because we were on our lunch place. Cashier was very polite and said 20 minute. Cool. Ordered 2 3/4 chicken tender plates. After 40 minutes, we checked in and asked if it was close to being ready because we needed to get back to work. Cashier was trying to be nice and apologized, said she thinks it's our food that is being packaged up now. Sat back down and waited. After 50 minutes of waiting, we asked her how much longer, and she said she was sorry and mentioned the text option for future orders to skip any kind of wait. At that point, we were pissed off and ready for a refund. We finally got our food an hour from ordering. We were on lunch for an hour and 15 minutes, waiting for this food. There was nothing to offer for the long wait. Had we known it was going to be over 20-25 min, we would have gone somewhere else for lunch and had Mack's over the weekend. I'm truly upset with the poor customer service when it was obvious we were disappointed and all the staff saw us waiting for a very long time.
Good chicken overall. Great flavor. Collard greens weren't seasoned, but everything else we ordered was good. I just wouldn't recommend for a lunch break at work.
Side note: the guy that ordered before us grew frustrated and walked out without a refund. We overheard him say he needed to get back to work shortly before us, and the cashier reassured him it would be soon, as well. He walked out after we asked how...

On our recent visit, my friend and I decided to put their spice levels to the test. He opted for a chicken sandwich with a medium spice level, while I went for the daring "Mack Attack" - a level above hot but just shy of their hottest offering. The cashier's playful warning only fueled my determination.
Both sandwiches were absolute perfection. The chicken was juicy and tender on the inside, with a perfectly crispy exterior. My Mack Attack lived up to its name, delivering a serious punch of heat that left my taste buds tingling. It was intense but not overwhelming, allowing the flavor of the chicken to shine through. My friend's medium spice level provided a nice kick without being too overpowering.
The sides were equally impressive. The potato salad my friend ordered was creamy and well-seasoned, providing a cool contrast to the spicy chicken. My fried okra was a Southern delight - crispy, not greasy, and full of flavor.
One thing to note is that everything at Mack's is cooked to order. While this means you might wait around 10 minutes for your food, the freshness and quality make it well worth the wait. Use this time to grab a drink and prepare yourself for the flavor explosion that's coming your way.
The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we were satisfied with our choices. The restaurant itself has a casual, no-frills atmosphere that lets the food take center stage.
Overall, Mack's Hot Chicken is a must-visit for hot chicken enthusiasts and anyone looking for a memorable meal. Whether you're a spice novice or a heat seeker, they have a level for you. Just remember - when they say it's hot,...
Read moreOn July 25, 2020, my wife called to place a to go order. She spoke to a live attendant/she was courteous, informative/patient. The attendant gave me a wait time/when I arrived, my food was ready to go. I ordered the 'jumbo tenders' and the 'mac/cheese'. The portion size was good, tenders were well seasoned/the mac was good/cheesy.
My wife ordered the 'catfish sandwich/collard greens'. The size of the fillets were large/filling and the collard greens were very, very well seasoned. I asked my wife to size her meal. She stated that it reminded her of 'ole' down south country eating whereby EVERY BITE simply made you want to 'SLAP YO MAMA'. Now, I am NOT telling anybody to be violent but I am 'jus sayin'.
My wife/I are on a quest 'in this season ' to patronize our black owned businesses and this one here, Mack's Hot Chicken ' is a keeper. You guys, challenge what I just said/go try them out for youselves.
If I had to say one bad thing about the entire experience is that when the attendant suggested that their 'chess pie' was great when I told her to add it to my order..you guessed it...THEY WERE SOLD OUT'.
So, having said, I highly/officially rate them a 5 (really a 10) but for jokes since they did not have the chess pie (not to mention I had my mouth all fixed for it), I will rate them a 4.999!
Lastly but definitely not least, make extra chess pie...LOL!
This is a comment from a local first time visitor but ya'll WILL see...
