We wanted this dinner out to be better than it was. The downstairs bar and restaurant are seamless (I could watch a couple play pool while we ate in the dining room) and clearly have been remodeled and upgraded. It felt nice as we were seated. The dinner menu seems relatively diverse. But "we're out of that" was heard from the table near to us, and repeated when I tried to order the chicken and dumplings soup. So we both ordered the beef stew with cornbread. On the first bite, both of us independently thought, "Dinty Moore." Whether this soup actually came from a can is irrelevant. It was barely lukewarm, the "broth" was pale brown and lacked any flare or tastiness. The potatoes all looked suspiciously uniform. An accompanying thin slice of corn bread was cold, not warmed. |Timing matters: we ordered a small salad and soup, and just when we were tucking into the salad the soup arrived. |Wine: Merlot for $8.50 a glass was poor quality; harsh and slightly bitter.|Ambience: as we ate, one of the restaurant staff walked by carrying a full bag of trash. Neither of us can recall being in a hotel restaurant setting and having a trash bag paraded by our table.|Final thought: It is a pain when everything you want to know about a hotel or restaurant (hours, menu, etc.) is only available on Facebook. Neither of us have FB accounts, and surely we're not the...
Read moreIt wouldn’t let me give zero stars or I would have BUT I would like to share my most recent experience that I had at the Solon Hotel. I went there about 6 months ago for the first time it was great. BUT I was back in town and with my husband, which I had talked about with so my husband had to see for himself. Let’s just say I/we were very disappointed this time around. I’m not sure what changed but something did. I feel the food quality has since went down the drain. I ordered pot roast, which I ordered the first time I was there 6 months ago (which was phenomenal) ; first off this time the potatoes looked like they had been sitting in grease and soaked in butter for weeks they looked dirty and not fluffy at all. I can’t imagine they were fresh. Second of all the carrots looked like they were rotted with the amount of (spices) I’m assuming on them?? The portion sizes are much smaller as well. Last time this was definitely not the case everything looked and presented fresh. When you pay this much for a meal it’s depressing when the food quality sucks, especially when u have had it before a certain way. I was actually embarrassed taking my husband there. Apparently pride has went down the drain and I do t foresee this place lasting a lot...
Read moreThe service was good but the food was terrible. Alyssa was our server and we have no complaints about her at all.
Things started well with the buffalo chicken dip for an appetizer.
Unfortunately, once the meals were delivered the excitement ended.
There were five of us:
Two of those at our table got pot roast. It was more like an extremely fatty, chewy cut of meat. The "baked" potato was a boiled potato that wasn't even cooked through and was hard. Corn bread was extremely dry.
The chicken fettuccine Alfredo was a mushy flavorless pasta with dried hard/fat chicken that couldn't even be cut. The "garlic bread" was just a "garlic knot" these are but the same. One bite was taken and choked down. Couldn't fathom choking down anymore.
We also had one with the chicken sandwich and one with the chorizo sandwich. Both were dry as there was no sauce or mayo on them. They were also not satisfied with their meals. Both said these is sandwiches were just "ok" and each ate maybe half.
We will certainly not be visiting this establishment again, extremely...
