Original Review Below! This is an update to that.

Third try, Feb 2024. Still generic and not great. Final time trying. Visited on 5/17/23, this was our second visit. I ordered 5 coney dogs, and "Wingman" bread, for pickup. 2.5 / 5 overall.

There was some discussion with my wife about what we wanted while on the call with the shop, but we decided on coney instead of pizza. They were pretty fast and said they would be about 20 minutes. I did appreciate the person calling me back to give clarity on how their coney dogs are made, because I asked for 3 with no onions (thinking diced on top). She called to tell me the coney sauce has onions in them, but they're cooked through and soft.

The interior decor is pretty neat if you like aviation. Lots of model aircraft hanging from the ceiling. It's relatively dark inside the restaurant though.

I went to pay and pickup and noticed she only had a plastic bag with no breadsticks. I asked where those were and she said I didn't order any, that I canceled them. Okay, for clarity, I started my order just with a pizza (on the initial call). But we were going fishing and decided coney dogs and breadsticks would be good. So, she was clear that I was not getting pizza, and I told her I wanted 5 coney dogs, 3 without onion, and a Wingman Bread. I never ordered Wingman bread with pizza because I was not going to get breadsticks with pizza. She told me I canceled them, which I didn't. I detest "the customer is always right" stuff, but in this case, I was right. She did offer to make them, but I was pressed for time.

The coney dogs weren't that great. The sauce was fine, reminds me of Todoroffs, but the dogs seem like they'd been in warming water trays for a long time. Very very mushy. May wait a while before returning. First visit, April 2023 3.5 / 5 This was our first time trying Maverick's. We do like some of the other local pizza places, but wanted to give the new folks in town a try.

First, the price was pretty in line with other local places. For two large, two topping pizza it was about $26 plus tax. We asked for one of them to be cooked well done. It took about 20 minutes for the pickup order on a Friday so that's pretty quick.

Okay, now for the pizza (the important part, right?). First, the large are big. Like, even bigger than expected. And boy they look good when you open the box! Unfortunately, both of ours weren't cut all the way through and they would tear apart when you tried to pull a piece away, so we had to cut it with our pizza wheel. Not a huge deal, but a bit challenging on the corrugated bottom of the box.

They did cook the pizza absolutely perfectly, like, perfection! But... They cooked the wrong one well done (at least I asked my wife if she was sure which one she asked for well done, and she's confident and asked for the right one to be cooked that way). But rest assured, well done is excellently cooked it you like it that way. . The bottom was crispier than the non-well done. The crust is a bit charred. Just needed to be the other pizza. They do not skimp on toppings either.

The taste of the pizza: both my wife and I agreed that while the pizza was cooked great, the size was huge, and it looked amazing, there was something missing about the taste overall. Maybe it needs more in the sauce, perhaps more basil, garlic, and possibly oregano. It would be good if the sauce had more flavor in our opinion. It felt a bit generic tasting. I don't mean that in a totally bad way because even generic tasting pizza is still good.

Overall, we're not unhappy with our first try of Maverick's. There's some room for improvement as they're still pretty new, but we'll be trying other things from them in the future. I do suggest trying them, as my tastes may be different than yours and you might find the taste to be excellent. I'll be trying the BBQ chicken pizza next time!

See the attached pictures for how good the pizza looks! Keep in mind, one of them we asked for well done, so it isn't burned on accident...

I was excited for a pizza place to open close by but I am now saddened by the quality and price of this place. When they first opened the pizza was delicious. Crust was flavorful. Now the crust is flimsy, flavorless, burnt tasting, and the pizza is ungodly greasy. Not enough sauce and pizza falls apart when you pick it up. My kids didn't even like it and what kids don't like pizza?! I also tried to pay with my card online... the system wouldn't let me because their portal wasn't working properly and the woman who answered the phone refused to take my card over the phone for delivery when it was THEIR site messing up, and she was also rude! Not too mention but the pizza is way over priced for what they offer! We will be going back to ordering...

First time my family ate here we ordered two pizzas and we dined in we had a hair in our pizza. They gave us one large free pizza for the hassle. Second time having their food no issues at all. The third time we end up with another hair in both the pizzas we ordered and the lady basically said I was lying and got extremely rude with me and blamed it on my wife after I told her it was going to be hard to believe and I understand if you don't believe me. I will never recommend or eat...

I really wanted to like this place. Somerset needs a good pizza place that is actually open. However the pizza isn’t good and it’s expensive. I ordered 4 pizzas for a small party and the consensus was that the pizza sauce was off and the pizzas were all dry. I hope they do well but I won’t be back. Update: owner says “picked up pizza 30 min late” the pizza wasn’t ready when I arrived at the specified time. So I wait 10 more min in parking lot. Doubt I was late.
