Goooood pizza here.
I like to venture away from SA in search of good eats without the traffic. Found a great pizza place in Somerset on 1604.
Great pizza. Great appetizers. Decent prices.
Got an 18 inch pepperoni, for a little less than $20. And three app sampler for $13 I think.
The pizza. My gf and I were struggling to explain why it was so darned good. To be fair, there was nothing extraordinary we could come up with. Yet, somehow, it was really good. Best we could come up with is quality ingredients in the right proportions. Like a team with no superstars that works so well together, they win a championship.
Crust was thinner than regular, but not thin crust. Yet, didn't sog down and tasted good.
Sauce met my pickiness for sauce. Smooth to my liking, without chunks (maaaan, I hate chunks). Not too much. Not too little. While I prefer more sauce, most of the time, I didn't find myself wishing for more, like I often do.
Cheese was cheese. No extra cheese needed. Just the right amount.
Pepperoni good too. Doubtful it was any kind of gourmet stuff, but flavorful, with just enough fat to add to the flavor, but not make for a lot of grease. Cooked right, to where edges curled up a bit and got just a little bit of crisp.
Destroyed the leftovers, which were plentiful since we ordered the biggest one with intention to bring some home.
Apps: Mozz sticks, fried pickles, fried mac and cheese. The sampler had 4-5 of each. Could have been a meal in itself for two. Enjoyed all of them and had leftovers. The fried pickles were a bit of a curveball. No matter to me, I don't like pickles. But gf does. The fried pickles were actually spears, not slices, which seems the norm. GF, being picky too, was reluctant. LOL. After trying, she mentioned they were really good and wondered why more places don't fry up the spears.
All food delivered to table roof of mouth burning hot. Definitely didn't sit out, waiting to be brought to table.
Gave atmosphere a 4. This is no kind of knock on the place. It was clean and all that. Reasonable service. No problems. It's a local pizza place, and a great one. Four is about the best something like that is gonna be. It's not Peter Piper. There's not stuff for kids to do (fine by me). Me, I prefer a 4 star atmosphere to a 5, any day.
Will definitely be returning, more than once. Plan to take my adult kids, if can ever round both up at same time.
Very happy I found...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhy did the chicken cross the road? To get to Constantino's pizza parlour on the other side. Yes. The place is in the middle of the Sommerset countryside boonies on Loop 1604 south, but it is worth the drive from San Antonio. They still have the same bountiful buffet of green salad, soft crust pizza and spicey wings for their Wednesday and Saturday lunch buffets. One would expect to see styro plates full of chicken drummie bone piles, but the friendly and attentive staff circumnavigates the tables with frequency to collect the bare bones and errant crusts that remain though you will want to eat the crust too. Order your favorite pizza for the buffet and it will be ready in minutes. We were able to get 4 slices from the all-the-meats we ordered before other diners discovered it and it quickly disappeared. We simply ordered another one and it was ready again suprisingly fast.
The chicken "wings" are addictive, and the pizza toppings are plentiful with flavorful cheese and sauce which achieve a balanced proportion. The only reason I can see for someone not liking the pies here is that the crust is more of a hand tossed, soft as bread, medium thickness. Those who like thin crust and or cracker like crispiness or crunch to their pizza should probably seek their dinner elsewhere. For these folks, I would offer a word that expanding your pizza repertoire to include all the wonderful and varied pies that range from thin and crispy New York style to thick as a brick Chicago deep dish will not only provide you with terific new taste sensations , but will also make you dinner companions a lot happier not to hear you b - - -, e-r-r-r, complain! For those that will not be reconciled,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām only giving this place a two star because the food is fairly good. What is lacking is Customerservice and the ability to get an call in order correct. We always call in our order to be picked up and I canāt remember the last time that our order was actually correct even after I have the people answering the phone to repeat the order. Last night was the last straw even after repeating my order over the phone it was still incorrect when I got there only half my order was there so I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to complete the order I think the problem is there are too many young kids working this place and no real management to oversee after waiting another 20 to 30 minutes for them to correct and finish up my order I went to pay and the girl at the register could not even count change correctly it took her forever to try to get my change correct. I finally told her keep the change and give me back the dollars I actually had to tell her exactly what to give me back. Then to find out they had not even included my salad that I ordered so there again it took another 10 minutes for them to go in the back and fix a salad. Hopefully you have better luck with going in and sitting and eating in the restaurant by calling in an order takes way more energy than I have. I will say our school system is definitely failing our kids by not teaching them how to count back money. I love you but then again no restaurant should put anybody on the register that is not able to count...
