Worst service!!! Whether busy or slow, the waitresses talk to each other in street slang and yell across tables over diner's heads. They are usually busy cutting up than servicing the guests and refilling teas anyways. There's someone new and untrained everytime I visit. I frequent the restaurant often because I love the open faced roast beef. I drive an hour to eat here. After tonight, it's on my "not unless we're visiting Somerville" list...which is never. My husband and I both ordered the roast beef tonight and both were served cold with luke warm gravy on top. They were out of mashed potatoes, a recurring problem, so we subbed it with baked potatoes-also cold enough to not melt butter. My husband doesnt like to whine, so I sent just my plate back asking that it be warmed up. 20 minutes later, owner present and grinning about the situation, no food. No tea refills... cold corn now and icy toasted bread. God knows the thermostat in there is always set to Antarctic. Food was served when I went to the register and yelled to the back for someone. Same with the tea. When checking out I was told I wouldn't be charged for the baked potatoes...you mean the cold ones subbed bc of the lack of mashed ones?! She ended up charging us only for the cheese sticks and that was the least they could do. Owner never said sorry, but left anyway still grinning.
I will no longer tell people about the pot roast here as I prefer not to subject friends and aquaintences to the horrendous service. It's a shame too, because the roast beef is freaking awesome when served hot with mashed potatoes. But the chances that you get both of those things together is a roll of the dice, if you get...
Read moreCame in for lunch on 3/16, the food was good after a really bad day at the lake. Tasted amazing just like always. I tried the bacon avocado burger for the first time and it did not disappoint. The sweet tea was delicious and my husband couldn't get enough of the coffee, he must have drank at least a pot of it by himself. He ordered his usual #2 breakfast but got hash browns instead of home fried potatoes, but no big deal as they actually looked way better than the home fried potatoes we saw at the next table. I still wish they would get rid of that stinky smoking room, but the food is so good it's worth sitting a little closer to the door. The service was not very good though. The ladies working were attentive but not very friendly at all. One of them almost seemed mad to be waiting on us. I guess the other girl realized we were picking up on it and she fixed her attitude. We have seen her in there for years and she is usually wonderful but everyone has off days. I hope the other one isn't like that all the time though because some people may not come back. I will though, I have to get another one of those burgers and drink gallons of that amazing sweet tea!
*UPDATE Over an hour for our food! The same rude woman was working and acting like a total JERK. The other people were nice but they need to fire her rude butt! Once we got our food we had cold eggs and gravy. Ordered home fries and got hash browns AGAIN. The only good thing was the coffee. The other people working were very sweet, but that one waitress is...
Read moreUPDATE Decided to stop in for dinner. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner. Ordered the smaller version, but still had half of the food as a take-home extra meal! Large portions, and as usual, it was awesomely delicious! I love this place! ❤❤❤❤❤ 03/19/2022
OLDER THE BEST all around diner I have experienced since moving back home in 2020! TOP TEN of my lifetime, Period! Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak sandwich, with Onion Rings as the sidecar, and of course, the Texas Sweet Tea. I was expecting a smaller sized Chicken Fried patty on toasted bread and the standard frozen rings. Boy was I surprised when they delivered a full-size Steak nestled between a toasted bun! I'm talking a regular Chicken Fried Steak that could have been plated and smothered in gravy, by itself, dinner-sized, Chicken Fried Steak! Tender beef, full of flavor and fried to perfection! The Onion Rings were handmade circles of heaven. Crispy and full of tasty Texas Onion delight! After I finished my sandwich, there were still several of those Rings left, so I took them with me. They were not going to be left behind!!! The Tea was as Sweet as Texas and was Ice-Cold and plentiful!!!
This was my first visit to Mama's Kitchen, but you can bet your BitCoin it won't be my last!!! Stay tuned for more...
