A cheesesteak not from Philadelphia might feel lacking because the Philly cheesesteak is more than just a sandwich—it's a cultural icon with specific ingredients, preparation, and history that locals hold dear. Here are a few reasons why a non-Philly cheesesteak might "suck" in comparison:
Bread: Philly cheesesteaks are traditionally made with soft, crusty rolls from local bakeries, like Amoroso’s, that can’t be replicated easily elsewhere. The bread needs to be just the right balance of soft and sturdy to hold the fillings without falling apart. Cheese: The classic cheese options are provolone, American, or, most authentically, Cheese Whiz. A cheesesteak that substitutes other cheeses like cheddar or mozzarella might not give you that distinct Philly flavor. Steak Quality: Philly cheesesteaks use thinly sliced ribeye steak, usually cooked on a flattop grill. If the meat’s not sliced just right or if it’s cooked on a different type of grill or pan, the texture and flavor won't be the same. The Right Cooking Technique: Philly cheesesteaks are cooked quickly and efficiently on a flat-top grill, ensuring the steak is juicy and perfectly seared. The balance between crispy and tender meat, mixed with the melted cheese, is a fine art that's tough to replicate. Local Pride: Philly folks are very protective of their cheesesteak legacy. If you’re outside of Philly trying to replicate it, there’s a sense that you’re missing the authenticity of the real deal. In short, it’s about the combination of ingredients, preparation, and the tradition behind it that makes a Philly cheesesteak special. Outside of that context, it’s just not the same...
Read moreThat hit the spot! Just got a basic corned beef sandwich with fries and a root beer. Corned beef sandwich came on grilled rye bread, grilled to perfection. The corned beef was shredded which gave it a nice texture and it was delicious. The fries were nicely seasoned and crispy. Table had ketchup and Cholula… you really can’t go wrong with Cholula, it’s a staple hot sauce. My gf got a regular cheeseburger. It was pretty good. I’ve definitely had better but this is a chain so for what it is, it’s great! Came with shredded lettuce and tomatoes on it. Veggies looked and tasted fresh! Only way to make this burger better would be to sear and season it better. Otherwise it was a great burger. Nice and big and juicy! Will definitely be coming back for more. Might see if they can make me a mushroom Swiss burger and add corned beef!!!! 🤤 Update just went again and got the Chicken Cordon Blue! A winner for sure. The only thing that would make it better is… nothing! It’s perfect! I want another...
Read moreNot bad... just not seasonings and cooking style, I prefer. UPDATED, the last post was a couple of years ago. Tonight, we stopped in, and I got a cheeseburger and fries. Wasn't at all disappointed. Well, at least not until I dang near choked because I was eating my yummy 😋 burger so fast, but that was my own darn fault, haha! Update 7/2/22 Got a Gyro...darn thing was so full it was falling apart, but doggone it was good! 10/31/22 Update: Food continues to be good. I have not come close to trying everything that they offer, but what I have tried I enjoy. If you don't prefer seasoned fries, you can request regular salted. They have also expanded their eating area. Looks really nice! Update 1/22/23: We stopped in last night and ordered a mushroom and Swiss with cheese fries. While some may love it, I admit it just didn't appeal to my taste buds. The service was very good. I think it was just the particular cheeses they used that I didn't care for. Other than that...
