I am a Chef and have had my own restaurants. I would never do anything to hurt an establishment unless I felt it was not living up to standards, especially in today's financial situation. But when you charge high prices, your food better reflect the cost to the customer. Here's my review in hopes of saving you a "LOT" of money for nothing. My wife and I on our anniversary. 5 p.m. reservation. Seated and served a 1 X 2 inch piece of dried up cornbread with a pretty star of butter larger than the cornbread. Two overpriced weak cocktails with fancy names. We split what they were calling their special, a 20 oz. bone-in Ribeye steak, (actually more like 12 oz.) Steak comes out RAW in the center, (has to be sent back) absolutely no flavor! Comes back out in pieces like shoe leather. 2 sides - Cream Spinach, more like artichokes and breadcrumbs with very little spinach. Dry and more like a chip dip. Twice backed potato - almost the size of a football. So many ingredients I couldn't taste any "potato". So... a thumb size piece of cornbread, two sides, a 20 oz, mmm, "12 oz." chunk of tasteless steak, two cocktails for? ... $150.00! That is with my wife and I splitting the meal. Oh and you'll be charged $6 for allowing you to split the meal. Waitress and Bus Boy very good, so not their fault. To top it off, my wife spent the evening of our 27th Anniversary in the bathroom. Total for 1 single serving meal w/ two cocktails and tip... $180.00!!!! Yes... a memorable evening indeed. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with this place! If you're going to charge this kind of cash for food, you might want to find a chef who knows how to cook a steak at a "steak house". Contacting Health...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the the unassuming, worn exterior of Mill Pond Steakhouse as you pull in to park in front of this building right off of the road. It actually looks like two small old-timey shops joined together by a foyer. The entry door is at the end of a less obvious narrow walkway situated about halfway on the building. As you enter, you'll be greeted warmly by welcoming staff into a hunting-lodge-meets-rustic-farmhouse style interior, with scenic waterfront views of the large Boykin Mill Pond. This side of the restaurant is the more formal dining area, while the opposite side has a bar and slightly more casual vibe.
The personable nature of our waitress added to the overall relaxed atmosphere, while the quality of the food turned this into a fine dining experience.
The menu and specials offer a mouthwatering selection, with a la cart options to complete the surf or turf (or both). The extensive drink menu will satisfy even the most discerning palates.
The meal had our entire family savoring every bite and every sip. We tried the halibut and the dry-rubbed bone-in steak, the enormous twice baked potato and the best macaroni and cheese we've ever had (with kids, we've tried more mac & cheese than we can account for). Rounding out the meal was a freshly baked peach cobbler with creamy vanilla ice cream. Every dish was thoughtfully constructed and beautifully displayed. Though pricey, the flavor and texture combination for each dish was priceless. This review doesn't do it justice. Make a reservation and try it for yourself, you won't be...
Read moreGoodness what an gem hidden in Rembert SC close to Sumter. I made reservations after a friend recommended that I give them a try, I'm so glad we did! The place has an interesting history, it was an old mill. I walked around before going inside to take some pics. Once we walked in, the red carpet was rolled out (the best customer service).
This was definitely one the best meals that I have ever had in my lifetime. The team was professional, friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was excellent, everything tasted freshly made with love. The next day I had No stomach pain at all, which is very rare these days when I eat at a restaurant. The lamb chops and ribeye aged steak was absolutely amazing, every bite melted in our mouths, the different flavors hit all thru our palates.
The only tip I wanna make sure patrons understand. Yes it's a pricey evening out, and the sides are not included. We felt that at least one side should be included with the main dish. My 4 lamb chops cost $61 which was quite a bit. Most high end restaurants will at least include one side. Don't let this take away from your experience, just go and enjoy. It's a once a year kinda meal for us. We didn't try desert, but heard it was also amazing.
It was our 32nd anniversary, and the waitress wished us many more, we didn't expect anything more. The thought was very much appreciated.
I recommend to all and will be...
