As many have mentioned, Scotties is located in the gas station area. There is parking and we did not have to wait for a table. Portions were also very good and the food came out fairly quickly. Our server kept our glasses filled. The first thing you see when you open the door is a case of beautiful cakes. However, there were some issues. First, the place is clean but very dated. You can't see the dining room from the front door and there isn't clear direction about seating. Noone addressed us so my husband flagged someone down and asked if we sat ourselves, which is what they prefer. The server was adequate. Drinks were refilled and she provided things we asked for. Unfortunately, we had to ask for silverware, my side salad and the dip for the sub. I can't complain about my hamburger steak. It would have been nice to have a roll or two though. My son liked the flavor of his cheese pizza but it was very hard to cut near the middle. My husbands monster burger was a bit on the greasy side. The dip sub was not a typical au jus as expected. The dip was thicker and my oldest said the taste distracted you from the taste of the sandwich, but the meat was a bit dry without the dip. My husband liked the dip on fries. There was an incident where I think a server dropped a glass in the prep area. I couldn't see and it wasn't a big deal. Then some man said loudly, "Good job, name. Everyone give her a hand." I found it disruptive. I found it unnecessary and, frankly, belittling to that server. We couldn't see, but we felt like it came from another employee. Many of the staff appeared to be related somehow, so maybe I totally misinterpreted it. I debated a 4 star rating but decided on the 3 star because I don't know if I'll go back to sit down with a meal. There were alot of little things that added up for me. I will say this though. It was fairly busy for a Friday night and I'll probably definitely go back for some cake to go. It looked delicious. I was just too full and we were not going...
Read moreThis has been our meeting spot for my Mom (coming from Charleston) and me (coming from Lake Norman) and I quite look forward to it! At first it was merely the draw of a salad bar lol, I'm a passionate salad bar fan. But everything on the menu has always been so good and with HUGE portions! Now they have added a hot buffet with lunch and dinner options too. There are still plenty of menu options like: pizza (phenomenal pizza, they clearly source products with Air Force level precision), subs/sandwiches (also delicious with great ingredients and usually big enough for at least 2 meals), varying salads (including a Greek salad big enough to share with everyone at the first Olympics) and burgers - your usual menu fare but everything is enormous and assembled beautifully. So we already knew the food is great but of course a hot buffet is where you can really tell the talent hidden in the kitchen. The collard greens were tender, not mushy and delicious - not an easy task for a buffet! I am a master Mac & cheese cook and RARELY enjoy restaurant M&C, it's just a difficult dish to pull off large scale in food service (bet you know what I'm gonna say next) IT WAS DELICIOUS, flavorful and still creamy, the pasta wasn't mushy from the buffet. Just well executed all the way around.
Scotties is one of those spots where you're like "well it's a restaurant attached to a gas station but I guess I'll try it" and then you're considering whether they'd notice a whole dish of the creamy spinach Alfredo disappearing. Later you'll wake up all sweaty and messy from dreaming about spaghetti and meatballs. Don't sleep on Scotties, and if you need to walk off having way overeaten you can meander the lovely nursery next...
Read moreThe food was pretty good. The waitress was a very nice & patient young lady. However, the owner, Scottie, sat behind our table and loudly complained the entire time we were trying to eat. When I walked in he had taken the entire staff off the floor and was yelling at them. I heard him say "If you do _ then you no longer need to work here" at least 4 times. Although I understand the need for reprimand, I don't think that should be something that the patrons have to hear while trying to enjoy a meal. He continued his rant for another 30 minutes as he complained about burned chicken fingers being delivered to Westwood high school and how he no longer could be the owner of the restaurant. He complained about losing $24 for having to refund the money for the burned chicken fingers, complained about losing the chicken, insisted that whoever had done it be fired, and then gave another table a free bottle of wine in the same breath. We, ultimately, boxed up our food and took it home because we couldn't enjoy the meal. Honestly, the man might be bi-polar. We may eat here again due to the limited options in Blythewood but it will certainly be made to-go. I feel sorry for...
