Considering the place is across the street from the wildly successful Matunuck Oyster Bar, I had high expectations, since competition breeds excellence. That was not the case. Although the setting is nice, the food is 'fair.' Sadly the fried calamari were soggy and mushy, and they are supposed to come with sliced olives and peppers and we found the equivalent of 1 sliced olive and 3 slivers of pepper. The Seafood Cioppino, which is "shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops, and fennel in a spicy plum tomato broth over pasta" was tasteless (never mind spicy). The sauce was watery and had no flavor, it was so liquid that the sauce would not stay on the pasta. So it was pasta with some seafood which was ok cooked. Dessert was the Chocolate Volcano which was a premade, factory bought item that was plopped onto a plastic plate with cheap ice cream in a styrofoam cup. Looked like a 5-year old put it together. Other items that show you that the restaurant does not pay attention to detail are the 4 gas canisters along the edge of the deck not attached to anything and the dirty dishes container in full view of all diners, like in a cheap diner. When a restaurant has a wonderful setting and offers pricey entrees, that food quality and sloppy atmosphere make for a place not to return to.

Cap'n Jack's restaurant in Kingston, RI, is a gem of a seafood restaurant that perfectly captures the essence of coastal dining. Located in the picturesque town of Kingston, the restaurant offers a beautiful setting that enhances the overall dining experience. The highlight of our meal at Cap'n Jack's was the incredibly fresh oysters. Each oyster tasted like it had just been plucked from the ocean, with a briny and refreshing flavor that was truly delightful. My wife opted for the clam fritters, which were a perfect blend of fluffy texture and golden crispiness. The fritters were bursting with clam flavor and were a true delight to the taste buds. The overall experience at Cap'n Jack's was fantastic. The service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. The restaurant's location in Kingston adds to its charm, making it a perfect destination for a seafood meal after a day of exploring the town. In conclusion, Cap'n Jack's is a must-visit for seafood lovers in Kingston. With its fresh and delicious seafood offerings, friendly service, and charming ambiance, it offers a dining experience that is sure to please.

Came here at 11 am on a Saturday right at opening. Staff were ready to welcome us in. We opted to sit outdoors which was a patio overlooking a salt marsh. The server was friendly and made sure that we were doing well, she even came to talk to us about the bunnies and the birds that hang out in the area. Got the chowder and clam cakes. Chowder definitely had a lot of seafood and potatoes in it. Clam cakes are like big pieces of fried bread with clam in it. I've never had it before and was pleasantly surprised by the crispy exterior and soft chewy interior. It was a little too heavy for me so I only finished one cake. Overall, I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Good lord, let's talk about this place. I'm not normally severe with my reviews but I will be with this place.

Geographically it's sitting right on a salt marsh and it has a great view. The restaurant is your normal coastal seafood joint. There's outside sitting, indoor booths, a bar, and a full dessert cabinet. This ends the good.

I ordered Clam Chowder while everyone else in my party ordered various things around the menu. The clam chowder was unbelievably thin. Like canned clam chowder is thicker. The only ingredients I could perceive were fresh clams and borderline raw potatoes. The thin chowder had more salt in it then I care to eat. My chowder entree included "clam cakes"; giant balls of fried batter with overcooked, rubberized clams shoved into them. But at least the clams were fresh at some point in time.

My party ordered their Fishermen's platter. A large dish with a fried fish fillet, fried full bellied clams, fried shrimp, and fried scallops. The full bellied clams were the only salvageable item in the group. The fried fish was soggy. The shrimp was tough as leather. The scallops were so clearly frozen it was unbelievable. Completely watery and chewy.

I don't know what I expected since the prices were legitimately low. I just expected that an establishment that literally sits on the ocean wouldn't cut corners with their food. At least they gave me the same complimentary dinner rolls that every family resturant gives me.

Pros: Low priced Nice view Nice staff Free rolls

Cons: Disappointing soggy and frozen seafood They're probably the only restaurant on the New England coast who can't make a decent...

Today my family and I went down to Captain Jacks from Warwick to go get some clam cakes and chowder etc... thought we would take the dogs for a ride . My boyfriends mother and I go in to order takeout $80 worth of food while my boyfriend and his father were outside in the parking lot walking the dogs waiting for us . My boyfriends mother and I go back to the car and they come back to tell us we have to leave because some guy said we had to leave because dogs are not allowed here because they “shit everywhere and you’re not going to pick it up “ little did he know my boyfriends dad had a bag with him just in case . This old guy was driving around the parking lot in a white GMC ARCADIA . We are highly disappointed now and go inside to get our money back and speak to the manager . While we are doing this we found out that this old man was parked behind my boyfriend and his father who had the dogs in the car ready to leave waiting behind them and this old man flipped off my boyfriends father ! We had two dogs with us who are very well behaved and hadn’t done a thing for this guy to speak to anyone in this manor ! We will NEVER BE BACK AND WILL LET EVERYONE WE KNOW ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW DISGUSTED WE ARE !!!!! We will never go back and would much rather go to Aunt Carries so if anyone has pets they are not pet friendly!!! And just so everyone knows there was no sign saying no...

I have lived in Rhode Island most of my life. So, when I visit now, seafood is important because I live in the midwest where seafood isn't always available or fresh. So, off to Cap'n Jack's we went. Horrible food. The worst chowder I have ever had ,and I have had it all over the state. There was a fly in one of the bowls we ordered. The clam cakes were devoid of clams and so crunchy I almost cracked a tooth. What is very sad is that if others are from places that are not familiar with this type of cuisine, then you may be fooled into thinking that a chowder is a thick gelatin like soup with no quahogs and no salt pork and potatoes a plenty. Not so. When we kindly inquired as to the ingredients of the chowder the waitress was clearly annoyed. Even after having to replace the fly ridden bowl. We paid full price, never offered a "fly" discount. Of course, to me that is neither here nor there, it is just irritating as I recount the experience. We were there on a Sunday at 12:30, in the midst of the tourist time, mid July. Only two cars in the parking lot. So there was our clue that we overlooked!!! That does not happen on a Sunday afternoon where there is good seafood. In asking around, after the fact, I have come to understand it has built a terrible reputation in the past years. Years ago, it was a great place. Sadly, that is no longer the case. So so...
