We eat at the Colebrook Tavern 2 to 3 times a month and generally take friends along. The past 2 years we've gone there many evenings and usually spend well over $150 plus 20+%tips.
Usually we have no complaints, but tonight, 7/16/25, we and another couple were there and ordered Jerk Shrimp Tacos. Both orders came out swimming in red cabbage or cole slaw juice. They were saturated and the entire tray and container of corn were surrounded by juice. You couldn't pick them up without making a huge mess. I asked the waitress for extra napkins, but we gave up and ate them with a fork. I asked the waitress to report the mess to the cook. She looked at it and told me she'd ask the cook. She returned with the cook's message that this is the Colebrook Taverns serves the dish. I've never had tacos served that were soaking wet with a full pond of juice in the tray. Since the cook offered a blunt comment on it I thought I'd do the Colebrook Tavern the favor of reporting it to the manager. To my surprise .... although the manager was pleasant, but only asked if the food tasted good. I told him although it tasted ok, we certainly didn't expect Taco Soup. I was never served tacos that were in a pond of juice. I told him that I ate 2 of the 3 tacos with my fork as the shells had disintegrated as they were saturated. He said he'd talk to the cook about draining the coleslaw in the future.
The manger offered nothing else. No thank you for reporting it, no discount, no refund. We paid the bill in full, and tipped the waitress well, but I'll probably not spend my money at the Colebrook tavern in the future. I think the manager should have done the right thing and offered something...Profit is apparently all he cares about.
Too bad, its been nice place and we went there often. We'd probably spent over a grand there this year alone. Guess we'll go elsewhere, and I'm pretty sure the Colebrook Tavern management doesn't care about customer satisfaction or food quality at all. Good waitresses, but the cook and manager have ruined what was previously a very nice place to stop by and enjoy good food and drinks. Good luck, I'll...
Read morePlease name your Cobb salad something else, because it is not a Cobb salad and please remember to put on the bacon so your server doesn’t have to do extra work. The chicken tenders were dry and for $15 they should be better than Popeyes.
If the food was great, I’d over look the annoying country music. The place does look nice compared to the previous owners, but their food was better and cheaper. I don’t mind paying more for quality, but I didn’t get it and I’m wishing we would have just left when I saw the menu. I’m not sure why a French onion soup is $13. Are you serious? I’ve eaten at higher end places and didn’t pay that much for onion soup. Gin Mill has seafood soup for $6. French onion soup has cheaper ingredients and you charge Thirteen Dollars 🤣 Do people actually pay this? I checked comparable restaurants just in case I’ve missed something, and no one had any soup near that price. Who is pricing this menu??
I’m also curious why no modifications are allowed on your personal pizzas. I asked if we could order with no cheese and was told no. So the lactose intolerant are out of luck I guess. I’m betting they’re frozen because cooks would be fine doing one less step on an order. I suspect not everything on your menu is made from scratch.
You got 2 stars only because your server was nice and patient and the remodel does look very nice. I wish it wasn’t bad because I live close and would love another option. I’m showing a pic of my sad non-Cobb salad and a normal one. I swear I saw avocado on the menu before ordering, but it wasn’t and I tried it anyway. I ate most of it as it wasn’t terrible and I was super hungry after a hike. Please stop putting corn on it. Maybe name it something else like...
Read moreI ordered tacos with no sour cream. The cook refused to make my tacos without it. The bartender said no special orders. There was nothing on the menu stating this. Just “no substitutions.” I didn’t ask to substitute, I asked for no sour cream. I told the bartender if I couldn’t get them without the sour cream then forget it - and they did. I waited and stewed, and lo and behold, the cook wouldn’t make two tacos without sour cream. I also got reprimanded by the bartender because I stated the cook was an A-hole. Unbelievable!! Why couldn’t I get a taco without sour cream? Because, according to the bartender, it gets to confusing making all the tacos on taco night when there’s special orders. There were only four of us in the entire restaurant at the time. Also, my friend asked if she could get a simple grilled cheese sandwich to eat with her chili. The bartender asked and said the cook can make it but they would have to charge her for a classic hamburger - $17!! Seventeen dollars for just a grilled cheese!!! In addition to the crock of chili! Jaw-dropping!! Needless to say, she then declined. We won’t support this place again because they don’t appreciate our business. There are other...
