The only thing wrong with Morgan’s is, it is IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA.
If the staff, the patronage and the mentality weren’t cloaked in Eastern PA societal norms, this would be a gem. I was met with contrition, arguments, matter of factedness, and a sheer reluctance of my server to be helpful. Starting with an eye roll at my drink order and ending with a refusal to ask the kitchen for my starch swap.
I ended with duck in raspberry jam, with “coconut rice” an odd dish of pilaf and shredded coconut. Only in a place like EPA, can one use a popular dish name, but deliver some new concoction.
If you ask around town, locals will tell you Morgan’s is “fine” and then try and succinctly tell you that “only old people” eat there. I found this fact out after returning from my meal, a fact I had to agree with.
Here were some very odd occurrences based on the menu/server.
A) soup sizes per the menu: 1) small bowl 2) large bowl, but when ordering I was given the choice, cup or bowl. When I showed the menu to clarify we would be using shared language, the menu, small/large were not even addressed.
B) No substitions? My dish (not stated on the menu) I was told orally, came with Orzo. I said I didnt want pasta/gluten, what could I swap for? I was told “only starch” and was asked if I had a gluten allergy. Then there was some unshared understanding of which items had gluten. I even had to clarify that we were all on the same page that orzo WAS PASTA. In the end I asked if I could have “risotto style farro” from elsewhere on the menu. I was told “Ill check with the kitchen, if not what else would you want.” I said well let’s order that and upcharge me if necessary. To which I was told, “they won’t do it,” I besmirchingly asked what happened to checking, and then I was given the servers resume and years at the restaurant. I repeated that she offered to check, I didn’t assume that as an option. This became such a conflict that myself and my guest were appalled.
C) I was asked what salad I wanted with my meal, (listed no where on the stained paper menu) and I asked if the soup I ordered could count, I was told the soup is full price, I asked if I could get the caesar than, she said yes it will be full price, I said then what is the salad. The salad as it turned out was wet baby spinach, from a dole pre package, with one slice of...
Read moreA friend of mine was in town and we all decided to meet up somewhere near by where she was. We randomly picked this restaurant. Looked online it did not mention anything about reservations required or anything. When we walked in we were greeted in a weird way is the best way i can put it. The gentleman says how can i help you. We said yes a table for 3 which he replied oh I’ll have to see if we can squeeze you in. Now that’s where i was taken back because the restaurant was completely empty. I’m serious. Besides the side room that look like they were having a small private party the rest of the dining area separated from the private room had zero diners. So that was the first red flag for me. Our server i don’t recall her name but she was nice & very polite. We all ordered different things. I specifically ordered a steak salad and asked for medium and the first video with the burnt steak tips is what they served me first. I didn’t even take a bite i could tell it wasn’t medium and it was way overcooked. I mentioned it to the server she asked if i wanted an entirely new salad or just re cooked steak. I opted to keep the salad that part was fine and asked for new steak. The next steak they brought out was cooked perfectly. I just was very put off that they would serve me burnt steak in the first place but also that they knew i asked for medium and they still tried to serve me that.
Overall the other parties in my group enjoyed their food. I enjoyed my food overall once mishaps were corrected. I’m not sure yet if I’d go back. It was a very cute little old style restaurant. It was very cozy and i love the old feel it had to it. But the greeting and the food issue was a little upsetting. But like i said overall the food was good. The steak was seasoned well. Salad was fresh. I really enjoyed the French onion soup. The alcoholic drinks were pretty decent as well. So if ever in the area we might pop in to give them...
Read moreWe have loved coming to this restaurant for the past 10 years. We have come for breakfast, lunch and dinner without ever being let down by the food or the servers. Over the past few months we have tried coming in on a Saturday morning, as we have countless times prior over the years. Every time we arrive we are asked if we have a reservation and upon the reply of “no”, we are treated with an eye roll and a head shake by Blake’s wife. I 100% understand that reservations are priority but going out of your way to show how aggravated you are that someone dare walk in the door without one is not necessary. There have been times in the past that we have been seated for breakfast and just watch people get turned away one after the other wile tables sit empty for the duration of our time there. Not one time has she ever said, “Oh I’m sorry there’s nothing available right now but you could wait 30minutes, 45 minutes, an hour…” It is always just “No”. If you want your restaurant to be reservation only then just commit to that and change your policy so customers know from now on. I know that you will continue to be busy, which is great but it won’t be with us ever again.
PS: I see you responded to the 2 star review below me thinking it’s the same person. I have no idea who that person is but it doesn’t surprise me that they had the same experience an hour prior. His review was already posted when I went to leave my 1...
