Today my family of five went to dinner at Ristorante Mulino. Two adults, a 9 mo old, a 3 yr old and a 6 yr old. We ordered two kids noodles entrees and two bowls of soup for the adults. After 10 -15 minutes the adults soup came, with a warning that the noodles would take “a few minutes longer”. After about another 10-15 minutes we said we needed to go (bed time for little kids). I asked for the check of the food we were served and to cancel everything else. They asked if we wanted to wait for our kids food to go or to have it taken off of our bill. I said, the time has passed I am not paying for those meals they are too delayed. The proprietor came to apologize and said the kids meals would be out in 5 minutes. They were. My two older daughter began eating their meals. I had waited to eat my soup for our entire family to have their food which had turned cold, so I sent it back. The same proprietor came by to say that she had kindly taken the soup off of the bill. I replied with, as I told the waiter when we needed to leave, I’m not paying for the kids meals that took 30 minutes. The soup which came in a reasonable time frame I will. She said “well then” “I’m taking the food back”. She then proceeded to literally take the forks out of our 6 and 3 yr olds hands and removed their plates, which they were mid bite on. My 3 year old started crying because she was hungry and had never experienced someone taking food away from them. I’ve never had someone treat my children so rudely over noodles and an error that they created. Pictures below are of my child crying after having the food taken from her and the proprietor who took the fork out of her hand and the plate out from in front of her. Families of Southlake, dine at your own risk! Unfortunate too because we had so many prior wonder experiences there.

Awesome food. Great Staff. I first went on a Friday night when it was cold outside and had to wait for a seat at the door. Sometimes (like this time) queuing up and waiting to be seated is part of the fun. It's BYOB and the manager saw I had brought a bottle so he offered to get me some glasses. We had some wine while we waited for our table. We ordered the Arancini and they were outstanding. The sauce was simple and delicious. I next had to try the lamb ragu, where else can you get that? It was very good. My wife got the linguine with shrimp, I did not try it but the presentation was wonderful and she enjoyed it. We got a kids pizza for my son. Some places use cheaper ingredients for the kid's menu but not this place, I had a slice and it was awesome Neapolitan style (they advertise that it uses 00 flour and San Marzano tomatoes) and I'd compare it neck and neck with the Cane Rosso pizza I've had in Dallas and Fort Worth which I love so much. This in a kid's menu pizza. I've seen some reviews mention the price is a little high, perhaps. However, you do get to BYOB so that helps and the food, presentation, menu selection is noticeably better than some of the other local BOYB italian places which I also enjoy. This place is a treat, try it. Update: Came back with a larger crowd and tried the sausage and peppers (Peperonota di Salsiccia: Pictured). So simple, so good. I suggest perusing the menu before hand (like I did this time) and taking a wine you think will go with what you intend to order. The beer drinkers in my crowd brought beer to go with their pizza. All agreed this place is a keeper. Update May 2022: I often come and get the muscles. Muscles are largely about the quality of the muscles. I don't know how a restaurant in north central Texas does it but they are consistently fresh and delicious.

For a new restaurant, they are headed in the right direction. Some observations... Dining room is small, but, tables turn quickly. There has been a line on the weekend, but, it moves quickly and the owner offers guests flatbread. The restaurant is BYOB - they will open it for you and let you enjoy your wine while waiting in line. Concrete floors, small dining room make the environment a little loud when the place is full. The food is superb. The pasta and sauces were excellent. Everything that passed us being served to other tables made us say that we -have to come back and try that". The tiramisu was very good. All the desserts were likely homemade. The pasta portion sizes were perfect - just the right amount and appropriately balanced between sauce and pasta (not the typical American style of Italian food which dictates that more sauce = good). The service was exceptional - the staff was full of energy and efficiency to keep things moving. The owner was busy, but, was friendly. Some feedback... The pasta was a bit too "al dente". The menu warns that al dente is how they cook their pasta, but, ours was borderline under-cooked rather than al dente. The Caesar salad dressing was average - would have expected something better for the price. The croutons we're homemade - a nice touch but they used the bread they serve at the table (which is average). Hopefully they will upgrade to a nicer quality bread someday - that would be a good move and improve the croutons. Decaf coffee as an option at dinner time would be nice. Offer some botteled water options... Pellegrino. I bet the restaurant could sell a lot of esspresso drinks as well - it would complement the great food and dessert.

This place has 4 star food but a -1 star owner and service. Since 2017 I have been going to this place off and on and it is good food, but it is super pricey, which is fine if the food and service are worth it. Unfortunately, the service is mediocre and this last time was the worst and probably final straw. I called in an $60 order and was told 20 minutes. Arrived a little early since we headed straight there after calling but no biggie. Decided I'd wait. 5 minutes and then they ran my card. He says it will be 5 minutes. No problem. 10, 15, 20 minutes later, they had no food and no answers when it would be brought. This was 40 minutes after calling in. They forgot the order or misplaced the food or gave it away as they could not provide any answer when I asked how much longer. Finally, I asked for my money back. The guy says OK and then never came back. Finally, the owner starts to wrap up the two dishes I had been waiting 40 minutes for... I ask if the delay has caused some food to turn cold as it's been FOREVER. The look of dim-witted patronizing confusion when I asked that was galling. She simply would not admit they forgot my food and acted like it was normal to take 40 minutes. The kicker was then they couldn't find the pizza I had also ordered... and after being so confident that nothing was wrong, she looked absolutely ridiculous asking the pizza chef to make another pizza quickly... right in front of me... So after 40 minutes and Ms. Patronizing Owner claiming they are so on top of things, they had to make a pizza because they lost it. Again, I'll ask Ms. Patronizing Owner.... What happened to my food that you had to make me a pizza 40 minutes after ordering? Right. Keep lying to and patronizing customers. The food is good, but the staff is either incompetent or indifferent, dunno which is worse. Probably won't even make a dent in the sea of 5 star reviews but seriously, if Keller weren't a culinary wasteland, this place would be...

It pains me to post this review, normally would have given 5 stars. Ristorante Mulino has been a favorite for several years but tonight's meal was not the usual pleasant experience. My party of 2 arrived well before 5 (Friday night) & there were 2 other tables occupied. We were immediately rushed to order. Server came by 2 times before we even got our wine opened & had a chance to speak to each other much less look over the menu. We stated that we were not in a hurry & did not want the food rushed out. Server continued to come by & we finally ordered salad. Again, we said no hurry & reluctantly gave the entree orders but said not to bring yet. Food came out before half done with salad. (Meanwhile food getting cold.) Staff continued to cruise by observing our progress & not because they were checking on our needs. I know it's a small place & Friday night but if I wanted to be rushed through a nice meal I would go elsewhere. We ordered some entrees to go & a dessert to have while waiting (which we made very clear). Again, they were in such a hurry to get us out of there, the to go order came out immediately & dessert was served in a to go container! I think that was the most rushed meal I have ever experienced in a restaurant. We were barely able to squeeze around staff cleaning off the table so we could hurry & leave. Regarding the food, it was great as usual although they have changed the Carbonara recipe. It's been a few months since we were in but it used to be much creamier. Just wasn't up to the previous deliciousness. Campo Salad & Shrimp Scampi was great & of course ditto for the Tiramisu, although the tin to go container detracted. At some point you need to appreciate the current customer, not worry about how many tables you can serve in one night. We don't believe it was the server's fault, just...
