I came into this restaurant with my service dog, he was stellar in his behavior. Out of respect for other customers, I requested a table away from all customers even though I do not have to do that. My dog made no noise, sat attentively doing his job. The waitress was amazing and very nice. We ordered our food and I told her that I would like 2 eggs for my dog. Unfortunately, I was out of town for the overnight/New Years holiday and left his food on accident and just wanted him to have a quick bite to hold him till we got home. I was CLEAR to the waitress it was for my dog. Be it that I do not work in the service industry, when the waitress handed me the eggs for my dog, I just put the plate down for him to eat. It just didn’t occur to me that I shouldn’t do that because other customers might complain because they eat off the plates. That was a very honest mistake on my part and I own that. I just didn’t think about it. They equally knew it was for my dog and could have also brought it over in a take out container. Again, honest mistake. A woman came over to the table, no introduction, no discretion. She just looked at us and said, “Do you realize now I have to throw that plate away because my customers will not want to eat off the plate.” My immediate response was to ,very courteously, say to her, “I am very sorry and I’m more than happy to pay for the plate.” She bluntly said okay and walked away. I was EXTREMELY nice to everyone. She was not discrete and not nice in her wording choice or the way she spoke to me. I felt awful about my oversight; however, immediately felt very unwelcome. My friend (a male) was angry and made a comment that he would blast her for that (meaning in a review). I asked who the woman was and was told she was the owner/manager. I opted to just ask for the check and he immediately went outside to the car with my service animal to wait in the car. The staff was looking at us as were the only customers seated by us. I felt very out of place and unwelcome. I paid $8 dollars for the plate. The customers sitting next to me apologized to me! They told me they could not believe she spoke to me like that and stated that could have been handled way different. I was so upset to be treated that way, it was very unprofessional and unnecessary. Would I recommend this restaurant for food, absolutely. I just don’t think it’s right to talk to anyone the way I was spoken to. Not for an honest mistake. You don’t treat customers that way. I gave them one star for service but my waitress was great. She was uncomfortable with the situation and it was...

SEVERAL GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS!!
On a day trip to Amherst, MA and points north, we found this gem through reviews on two platforms and chose to stop for breafast and we were quite glad we did!
FOOD
GLUTEN FREE options galore! Nuff said, right?! This was a very pleasant surprise for me. I chose to order a la carte...a single gluten free pancake, a hash brown patty and a side of corned beef hash. The pancake was large and fluffy, the hash was pretty finely chopped...no stringy corned beef here, and the hash brown patty was hot and crisp and probably my favorite of the the three dishes. It would have been awesome with sour cream and applesauce like a super crispy latke. So good! I would return JUST for this. (GF pancake $6, CB hash $5.95, HBP $3.95) GF pancake had a $2 upcharge. Worth it for me.
Steve had the biscuits and gravy; excellent! He got the full order which came with 2 biscuits and plenty of delicious gravy. Very filling! He also ordered a side of sausage hash which I was able to sample. Very unique hash of finely chopped sausage and potatoes with green peppers and carrots. We haven't had hash like this before. Well worth trying! (B&G full order $8.25, SH $5.95)
I just want to mention that the one dish of biscuits and gravy for $8.25 is basically an entire breakfast on it's own for LESS THAN NINE DOLLARS!
SERVICE
Everyone was very pleasant! We walked in, were greeted by the hostess and seated immediately. Our server was Lexi N and she greeted us with a couple of minutes to ask if we wanted drinks. She brought us water and gave us plenty of time to order. Much appreciated! We did not wait long for our food.
ATMOSPHERE
Family diner style, pretty loud as the crowd grew though no one group was particularly noisy. That was the only downside to the visit, but a minor one. Clean. Table, booth and counter seating. Can't miss the signage outside...or the chicken and rooster themes.
Part of the fun of roadtrippin' for us is finding new breakfast diners and mom n pop restaurants and when we find a really, really good place and leave happy, it can really set us up for a great trip. D & Js is one of those happy start places....
Read moreI was very and pleased with the service I experienced. Without making any Assumptions, I felt very singled out. I’m the only colored person in the restaurant and I went with my aunt. We weren’t greeted when we walked in. And when we sat down it was about 10 minutes before we were asked if we wanted anything to drink. Then a family sat down behind us and immediately they were served with their drinks and asked if they were ready to order while me and my aunt that sat there waiting for 20 mins before we put out order in. Finally the server came and I ordered the breakfast bowl with bacon, and my aunt got scrambled eggs with French toast. 20 mins later our food came out and my order was wrong. When the server got notified, she didn’t apologize or anything, just said ok. Went to the back and at that point I didn’t want the food. What upset me the mostly because no one was able to apologize or acknowledge any of the mistakes made. At least I didn’t let it ruin my day even though it my choice not to get another meal and I left without any thing to try. My aunt ate half her eggs and half her French toast and sip of orange juice. They didn’t charge us for my meal which was good we didn’t have to say anything. I know this is very long and if you made it this far thank you. I just feel every voice should be heard. I would not be going back unfortunately, it was very...
