Mama's Pizza & Subs — Restaurant in Spotsylvania Courthouse

I have used this restaurant since it opened in locust grove. I have to honestly say that I've never been disappointed. I have met and spoken with the owner on several occasions who is a very pleasant man. I suspect the reason that they do so well is the staff remains the same. They are obviously treated well and are happy where they work because it shows. The food is always been very good and the restaurant clean. Of course the service is very good also. It's always been a favorite stop for me. Sadly I've not been in in a while but I did stop in tonight for a pizza. I ordered a medium pizza which is about 16 maybe 18 inches in diameter. Mind you I did not measure it but if I had to guess I would guess it is 16 inch pie. It's not very big i'll just put it that way. I ordered it with one topping, pepperoni. That small pizza cost me $16 and I always put a couple of bucks in the tip jar on the counter as a gratuity so out the door it was nearly 20 bucks. The pizza was very good and cooked perfectly. But, I don't think I will be doing that again.

My wife was fresh out of a performance at the Middle School around the corner & had not eaten. So, we decided to stop for a quick slice or something. When I saw the location, I was expecting a quasi-fast food place. And, this place absolutely surprised me!

The ordering process is an “order at the counter & we’ll bring it to you” deal.

However, this was no fast food feel! The young ladies behind the counter were VERY sweet & helpful!

We decided to forget the “split an appetizer” plan we had when we entered & actually do dinner, because of their customer service! We are so glad we did!

My wife got the meat ravioli with a salad & garlic bread, which she said was good! And I had the calzone. It was very good! It was not as spicy and seasoned as I would like, and I would have cooked it a bit longer (just to crisp it up a bit), but it was PACKED with fillings/toppings. The red pepper flakes took care of the spice & we really enjoyed ourselves.

Ordered a stromboli, tweaked it to my specific toppings/sauce. It was delicious! No problems with the flavor and the toppings to sauce ratio was spot on. My only complaint, it was not a typical 'stromboli.' I ordered this specifically because of it's shape as I was traveling and wanted to still continue my trip without having to stop and eat or have a mess in my lap. Sadly, this is not how it went. It was not traditional as it was shaped as a calzone. I did not know this or I would have ordered something else. So I ended up with a mess because of this.
