If you're looking for great food and a unique, laid-back atmosphere, Uncle Gus's Mountain Pit Bar-B-Q checks all the boxes. We visited for a birthday celebration, as it was recommended by our dad, and it did not disappoint. We started with fried pickles, sweet potato fries, and fried green beans, with our favorite being the green beans. For the main course, we went with the combo platters, which included a delicious mix of ribs, chicken, and brisket. Some of our group opted for the ribs and burgers, and everyone was impressed with the flavors.
Initially, I thought the portions seemed a bit small, but once we finished, I was pleasantly full. The servings were just the right size. The atmosphere was fantastic, with rustic décor featuring old gas station memorabilia, farm equipment, and Southern relics. One surprise was spotting a Whitechapel band poster on the wall—it was especially cool because I had just seen them perform at the Aftershock Festival, and they blew me away. Seeing that poster in such an unexpected place added a fun, personal touch to the experience.
The BBQ sauces were a highlight as well, with four varieties to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the hot version, which had just the right amount of kick. Our server was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.
Outside, there’s an original steam roller and a vintage train caboose, adding even more charm to this already memorable spot.
On a scale of 1-10, we rate Uncle Gus’s a solid 9. It’s an easy 9—great food, a unique atmosphere, in-the-middle of nowhere, and excellent service make it a place...
Read moreTook my family to dinner here. Tonight was our first time eating at Uncle Gus's BBQ being from the south born and raised really hits home for good barbecue I must say I really wanted to have high hopes for this place. When we got there the AC was out. It was extremely hot inside. We chose to overlook it and still eat waitress was Good all the way. Up until my sister notified the waitress, she could not eat the food that it was very nasty tasting on her plate. She had the smoked meatloaf which was extremely mushy and the mashed potatoes are instant on my plate I had a pulled pork sandwich and coleslaw. My pulled pork tasted like it had been roasted in an oven all day. Did not even have a smoked flavor. The only barbecue flavor it had would have been the barbecue sauce I put on it. Very disappointing with this being a small town barbecue restaurant, I understand. Per the ratings, it looks like it's a good place to eat but quickly figured out it's because they feed a bunch of old people and I'm sure their taste buds are gone to sum up my experience, I think the cook s have lost their passion for food and cooking in general ..we will not waste our money...
Read moreToday, my family and I stopped in to grab a bite to eat. Our server was fantastic, I can’t remember her name but she was an older woman with blonde hair. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and fries. That was the most flavorless pulled pork I had ever eaten. If anything, it had a salty taste. The bbq sauce tasted like ketchup. The pork definitely didn’t taste or smell like it was smoked, at all. Again, our server was very sweet. BUT, the other woman working with her, she was older with dark hair, with flowers or some printed design on her leggings, was so incredibly rude. She had taken all the sauce bottles off the tables and another couple had sat down close to us. The dark haired woman started towards that couple then flung her arms up and “just forget it” then turned around and walked away. If we could hear it, the other could did as well. I’m sure it embarrassed the couple that had sad down. That same woman, then started berating our server for allowing them to sit at that table. As someone who has worked in that industry before, you don’t act that way out on the floor, in front of customers and you definitely don’t do that to...
