Driving home to Indiana from St Louis on Sun, Mar 31, searched Google for restaurant near by and Star 66 Cafe came up. We found it, saw that it was attached to a gas station and almost kept driving. Decided to give it a try, thinking maybe it was a diamond in the rough. Entered and immediately saw the pies and baked goods in the display case. Really looking up now. We were seated and the place was fairly crowded. Another good sign. Asked a gentleman (I assume the owner) where the bathroom was. Through the gas station. Hmmm...OK. Well, it was WAY on the other side of the gas station. Wouldn't have been bad except it was filthy. Damn. OK, back to the table. Saw the huge menu which is almost never good. Usually means all frozen inventory and thrown together meals, trying to be everything to everyone. I ordered one of the 3 club sandwiches (the one with ham) with french onion soup and my GF ordered french toast and hash browns with onion. The soup was good except I was disappointed there was no melted cheese. Oh well. The croutons and onions and broth were delicious. My fries were tasteless. Disappointing again. The sandwich was cut in quarters and was so thick it could not be picked up in one piece. It slid all over the place and had to be eaten in sections. Disappointing. My GF's hash browns were so greasy they were inedible. She picked up a bunch on her fork and showed me the grease dripping onto her plate. Gross, to be honest. The french toast was good although the pieces were really small. So the food was a huge letdown. The server, Jacob, was great. Very friendly, attentive, and efficient. He was the best part of the meal. Male cashier asked how everything was. I said something like "Eh". He didn't seem concerned and cashed us out. Would I...
Read moreEditing my review, so I ordered a special thought it was a small steak but was pork chop steak which I have never heard of. I ordered eggs over easy, white done yellow runny but they came out as over medium partial yellows done. The waitress said I thought they were not right so I said if you thought that we hy did you bring them to me? Then she asked did I want her to send them back I said no I will try to eat them but I could not eat they were nasty. The toast should be out in a minute she said which means she had time to send eggs back before bringing to me to begin with. When I try to put jelly on my toast the bread is barely toasted and flimsy like it was in toaster all if 30 seconds not toasted. This just made me sicker, the only thing was cooked proper were the hash browns, the pork chop could have been cooked another three minutes. The coffee was excellent, the silver dollar pancakes were over cooked. The waitress kept asking my 8 yr old cousin what he wanted to order and had pen in hand to write it down without even looking at me for approval. I told her why are you letting an 8 yr old tell you what he wants when I am the one paying for the meal and he is a child. Even though the waitress got angry because I told her she was not a good waitress I still left her a $3 tip for her effort. Even though she verbally trashed me to the whole restaurant. I waitressed for 35 yrs never was I ever that bad. Owner comped my meal and for that I am grateful as I only had three or four bites. You cannot be upset with me if you knew my order was not cooked right to begin with and you present it to me that way. Also, food was cold when served. Then if I complain that is on...
Read moreJust came in to eat asked for a Buffalo horse shoe takes an hour to get then comes completely drowned in cheese to where all the fries where mush. So I was going push the cheese and fries off and eat the chicken and when I did it was grilled chicken. So I call the waitress over and tell her it's all soggy and it's not breaded and she said she would get it fixed. Then the younger waitress comes over and sais can I ask what you ordered and I said buffalo horse shoe and she said we'll all buffalo shoes are grilled and I said I wasn't aware but it's fine I'll just pay for it and my fiance tries to tell her that I'd just like some stripes with buffalo and she sais I can do that but I'll have to charge you. And I told them both it's fine I'll just pay for it I don't want nothing because we already waited an hour for our food I'm not waiting another hour and paying another meal. So keep it simple and just go elsewhere. Our waitress Evan knew we shouldn't have been paying for it she walked over after and said I'm so sorry about this because it was my fault I didt mention it was grilled and I will admit everything was beyond soggy. So long story short 40 dollars waisted to not Evan get to eat and the owner can go ahead and watch his cameras this all happen at 1130 when they where not Evan busy I will spread the word on all social media platforms because that was the worst service I've ever had here and me nor my family will be back. And I'd like the owner to give me a call at two one seven four one six five zero nine five. And I'm regretting not taking a...
