I have mixed opinions on this restaurant. In some ways it was a 5 and in others it was a 1. Starting at the beginning, the noise level was deafening. This isn't a massive place, but we had to yell so people sitting right next to us could hear us. The walls are made of wood so why the acoustics are so terrific is beyond me. The noise definitely earns the restaurant a 1. We had the River Road Shrimp appetizer and it was AMAZING. The shrimp gumbo that came with my food was hideous. I can't stand large chunks of slimy okra or tomatoes in gumbo. The flavor profile was weak and there was only one pathetic shrimp in it. I got the seafood platter. It was really good with the possible exception of the catfish having the belly still on, which made it overly fishy tasting. My significant other had the Catfish Billy, which he said was excellent and my daughter had the Catfish Dot. Neither of them were very fond of the green beans that came with their entrees. They were a little bland to me, but were fresh. The service was a little weird. She would come and drop off stuff so fast we didn't have time to ask for drink refills. For some reason she only took our appetizer before disappearing for another 20 minutes. Another waitress brought out our appetizer. We were done eating and moving tables before she took our order. As to her name, I couldn't tell you because I couldn't hear her over the din, but she was very polite. We had to move tables because the ductwork slowly leaked water on us, and we finally got tired of it. It was a really strange visit overall. Robert's needs to consider bringing in some more local craft beers. They only have 2...
Read moreI started coming here after a friend told me about their fried alligator appetizer. Continue to go today for their bread pudding. Their original is great, with their king cake version being great, too, but the colors turn my wife away. So far, I’ve had their golden gate chicken salad, hamburger steak, alligator appetizer and their gumbo. I’m happy to report they’re all great choices. Even though the alligator nor the bread pudding has been on their lunch menu, they’ve always served it when I asked for it at lunch. Great place to try if you haven’t yet.
Again, in May, great food and great service! I dined in not long ago and just got two bread puddings take-out. Everything was great....Again! You gotta try it if you haven’t yet! And he’s right. Come for the fried alligator and stay for the bread pudding!
Again, Again, local business associate and I brought another business associate from Pittsburgh here last night. It was great, as usual. We had originally planned to dine closer to his hotel, at Louisiana Lagniappe, but without reservations, we were faced with an hour + wait time. So, we drove here and it was outstanding, all over again! We all had something different and, before beginning, we gave each other a sampling of each dish. All 3 were fantastic, preceded by the fried alligator. Excellent service. Seated immediately upon arrival around 5:30....
Read moreMy family and I visited this restaurant a few nights ago on Wednesday night. This place had the worst service I’ve had at a restaurant in years. The host staff was as rude as they could possibly be to us. They delayed and delayed and delayed getting us seated at a table despite there being empty tables everywhere and plenty of staff working. We waited almost an hour to be seated while they had “no wait” for a table. I asked the host staff 3 separate times to be seated during that hour and she claimed “she forgot”. We had 3 small children with us who were hungry. I tried ordering food for them while we were waiting for a table in the bar area and the host would not even take care of that for us. Eventually we finally got seated at a table, and then the waiter even refused to come and introduce herself, or even just take our drink orders for another 20 minutes or so until our last guests joined us at the table. This place has the rudest and most unprofessional people working and running this establishment. We will never be coming back here and I hope that this serves as a warning to anyone thinking of coming here to eat. It’s amazing this place is even still open with how they treat...
