Ahh, The Log Cabin! So glad that I finally got to try this local spot out. I thought it was great, but I do have some areas to critique because it’s 2021 and I have the opportunity to blast the internet with my opinion, even though no one asked me. The food was wonderful. No recommendations there. It is simple and to the point… Seafood, butter, and absolutely delicious steak. No fancy new aged elevated dishes. Great portions and the main courses are really able to shine. The wine list really left me wanting more... I mean, we are surrounded by so many great local wineries, and yet the only local wine they had was Barboursville. Not only that, but the wine they did offer were cheap brands I recognize from the Target wine aisle... Robert Mondavi and Woodbridge... yuck. Also, the reds by the glass were very disappointing. A Pinot noir and 2 Cabernet Sauvignons?! You are serving filet mignon... this is your chance to serve some nice big, bold reds like a Zinfandel, a petit Syrah, or a petit Verdot! There is not even a need to have Pinot noir on your menu at all… It is way too light for the steaks you are serving. As for the white wines, we had the Barboursville Pinot Grigio and it was delicious. But I would have also liked some lighter and more acidic options like Sauvignon Blanc or a Viognier, or a nice dry rosé. 3.Dessert: I had the broiled seafood platter for dinner, so I was looking for something nice and light for dessert. I was disappointed to find that most of the desserts were very heavy chocolate dishes… Not exactly what you want after a seafood meal. The only “lighter“ dessert was cheesecake, and I would still consider that to be pretty heavy. I had the chocolate crème brûlée, and it was very good, but I would have preferred a regular crème brûlée. Or even something like a lemon drizzle cake with a berry compote… Nice and light and complementary to my seafood meal. Also, this is a missed opportunity to serve some delicious dessert wines. I would have loved the option to have a glass of port or to try a nice sweet ice wine. We also weren’t offered a cup of coffee, which is another great upsell we probably would have accepted. 4.Decor, servers, and other: The decor is very cool. I love the log cabin theme and it feels so cozy and romantic. I think the main thing that needs to be changed is the carpet… No reason why you couldn’t go down with some really thick pretty plank wood flooring or even just a laminate that looks like plank wood flooring. I think it would upgrade the whole space and really bring it into the 21st-century without making it too modern. It would also make the place feel a lot cleaner. Our server was great. The only thing I think she missed is that she did not ask us if we were celebrating any special occasion… We were clearly very dressed up and this seems like the type of restaurant where people regularly would come for a birthday or an anniversary. She missed the opportunity to upsell us a glass of champagne.
Overall, I am not entirely sure I would return again unless there were some updates made. I am all down for an expensive meal, but when I decide to spend a lot of money on dinner, I want the whole entire experience to be just that... an experience, from top to bottom. It’s time to bring this place into 2021 to attract some younger clientele like my husband and I so The Log Cabin can keep serving delicious food for...
Read moreWe felt welcome from the moment that we walked in the door, through out our entire dining experience up and until the very end.
Here is the background. The restaurant closes at 9pm. We came in at 8:37pm. Not on purpose. We simply miscalculated how long it would take us to drive here from Winchester. We walked in the door worried that we would get turned around or at the very least get the “we are closing soon” suggestion, but to our surprise, that never happened. In fact, the complete opposite occurred. We were walked to a nicely set up table, right next to the fireplace. And then, a fire was started on our behalf.
The environment was perfect. The place has the aromas of a homely and welcoming log cabin. The scenery is laid out the same. The music was 50’s holiday themed. Like I said, it was perfect.
And then came the time to order our food. We were never rushed, even though we were minutes from closing time. I ordered the surf and turf. My wife order snow crabs. I had an ice tea. She had a martini.
The food was so good, we had to pray before and after our meal.
Another loving touch about this beautiful place is that they kept the fire going while we enjoyed our experience. It’s the small things that make an experience, An Experience To Remember that has to be shared.
A wonderful evening.
I really hope my experience will help anybody chose to enjoy theirs here, at the Log Cabin.
Post Note, our servers name was Debbie. She made our experience a most memorable one. We thank everybody for making us...
Read moreTLDR: Great seafood restaurant. Sneaky hidden gem. We've probably driven by this place a few dozen times over the years, but never really gave it a second thought. My partner and I visited on a whim on the way to do something else and we didn't have any expectations driving up to it. I saw what looked like barrels in the parking lot, but I immediately recognized them as standalone vegetable pots and tomato cages. "Hmmm, looks like they grow their own produce and herbs when they can, good sign!" Walking in the main entrance, we saw a cute interior that has clearly not changed too much since opening in 1942. It was well maintained and had a lovely retro vibe. The staff was friendly and let us know about the specials, including the prime rib. Our waiter, Mark, took very good care of us, telling us about his favorites and even making a suggestion to get a crab cake along with the prime rib. Good idea! The food was delicious, my partner got the prime rib/crab cake and I got the fried seafood Cabin Basket. The steak was a perfect medium rare, coming with some jus and interesting Cajun potatoes. My fried basket included scallops, shrimp, trout, and the house specialty crab cake. Seriously, the crab cakes are good. No bread filling! Okay, the prices are not cheap, but you get the quality that you are paying for. We will be going back as...
