This was my second time here, but first on a night after a football game. We knew there would be a long wait to get a table. That really wasn't a problem. It took about an hour. Once we got to the table, our server came pretty quickly and got our drink orders and appetizer order. The appetizer took too long, in my opinion, to get to the table, even on a busy night--probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 minutes to a half an hour. Our food order took easily an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. Our server said it was because the kitchen was running behind on cooking burgers. Fine, but when our order did come to the table, my redfish tacos were room temperature, and the queso that came as a side had the tell-tale film on top of queso that has sat in a kitchen window for an extended period. I sent it back and just didn't eat, because I wasn't willing to wait another who knows how long for a new order. The other three people in my party seemed to enjoy their food, so there's that. Here's the deal, I worked for years in restaurants. It really isn't that complicated. When you know you are going to be slammed, have extra runners in the kitchen to get hot food out to the table when it is ready. The server was defensive, and said she could only bring it as soon as it was ready. The problem is, she didn't bring it when it was ready. She was a nice young lady, but she couldn't handle the crowd and pace tonight. I would probably recommend this place if you go on a nice, slow lunch hour, but I won't make the mistake of returning on a busy evening--they don't have adequate systems in place to handle a crowd. I was really looking forward to...
Read moreNot very happy with the kitchen tonight. Had to send my order back twice for it to still come out messed up for the third time. Tonight I wanted to take my mom out to celebrate her new promotion so everything was going fine for the most part until my order came out the first time. I ordered the gator wrap which I thought the way I gave my order wasn't too complicated, 86 cheese and no boudin. I only wanted the meat, and caramelized onions no sauce. Sauce doesn't even come on it but for some reason it was brought back 3 times with some kinda of white sauce on it. Not to mention the fries were cold which they left the same fries on the plate from the first order each time. Common sense alone would say hey i need a new order of fries too but no i had to ask. The manager came to the table whom I never asked to speak to, to tell me she was gonna take it off. I just wanted my food to come out right. I didn't care about paying. It took 45 mins for the food to come all 3 times and I still didn't get to eat. I stopped by old faithful, Wendy's, on the way home. Maybe if the guys in the kitchen would stay in the kitchen instead of coming out posting up on the wall more worried more about who is there eating then maybe the food would have come out right who knows. This is the 2nd time I have been let down by this place. I wont be coming back anytime soon. At least my dog is happy with her compted meal that I didn't even eat.
What a wasted night...
Read moreMy husband and I had a great experience at Walk-On’s in Starkville last night because of our great waiter Gage Greene! He was very energetic and had a great mood and presence about him. He brought everything we asked for in record time and helped make our night one to remember. Gabe only recently started working at Walk-On’s but his professionalism and demeanor showed that he truly cares about his profession and making his customers feel comfortable and at home while at the restaurant. Our family goes to Walk-On’s for all of our special occasions such as birthday parties, anniversaries, and date nights, which is what last night was for us. We come back time and time again because we love the atmosphere so much! And the Voodoo Shrimp and Grits are my favorite anywhere I’ve ever been (and I’ve tried them at many different places). We have always had great bartenders and waiters/waitresses. The management is also top notch and so sweet. We complimented Gabe last night to management and was surprised with a complimentary order of beignet bites (which were amazing) and a discount on our meal. This was a great reflection of the type of place Walk-On’s in Starkville is. They should be so proud to have someone like Gage Greene working for them. He is a delight, and I hope we will be seated in his section on...
