This is the authentic mom-and-pop, hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant you are looking for.
My fiancée and I love this place. Mi Familia has to be one of the only restaurants in all of Statesville that we can go to and expect a consistent experience. I have yet to be disappointed when we come here — except when they’re closed or away on vacation!
As a California kid who grew up loving street tacos, Mi Familia really brings that true home-cooked flavor to the table. I often order carne asada tacos with onion and cilantro (pretty standard, I know), and my fiancée always gets arroz con pollo — and despite being a picky eater, I have yet to hear a complaint about her order.
Surprisingly, I don’t have any photos at the table here, but their overall presentation is good. The flavor is on point, all the time, every time. Staff is friendly and always welcoming; they always seem happy that you’re there. This isn’t fine-dining in any capacity, so don’t expect to be waited on like table-service restaurants; seat yourself and someone will be with you with the quickness, though, and if you need something don’t be shy to get up and ask at the counter — they won’t bite, I promise.
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an eating experience that feels like you were invited to eat your favorite...
Read moreMost negative food experience I've had in awhile. A friend and I dined here the other week, usually my choice of Mexican food is La Pelusa, or Cozumel. She wanted to eat there, I DID NOT, but let's try something new I say. Get there, restaurant is VERY run down, three people working. THREE, this includes kitchen staff. Wait about 10 minutes for the owner (I'm assuming) to take our order for drinks. Owner pours soda (hot), from a CAN into two large cups. Okay... So this enough should have been a red flag, and was for me, but whatever. Finally takes our order, I got a California burrito, and a side of queso. Got the food, SUCKED. The meat in my burrito was in chunks, rather than normal ground beef, torilla was tough. I honestly could have made the food better at home on my own. The "queso" was runny, I'm assuming they just took milk, and added cheese, because it MAINLY tasted like milk. Worst place ever, don't eat from here. Other MUCH BETTER Mexican restaurants in...
Read moreThis is by far the most flavorful, AUTHENTIC, Mexican food within a 3 hour drive radius. If you want something covered in “queso” or “queso dip” stick with Chipotle... if you think ground beef is “normal” for a burrito as opposed to ‘carne asada’, go to what you’re used to... this is not going to be a place where you get served by people who are purposely trying to cater to a certain demographic so they can feel like they are experiencing other cultures... to put it bluntly, it’s a family owned and ran Mexican restaurant. Their primary language is Spanish, expect an accent. The tacos could be a little better, and have double mini tortillas (comparing to Tijuana tacos)... but the Tamales are on point. Prices are beyond reasonable. If you’re searching for genuine authentic Mexican cuisine, this is the place to go. PSA, street tacos don’t have lettuce, cheese or sour cream... just salsa, diced onions...
