Charly’s Super Tortas Chilangas — Restaurant in Stockton

What do I say... Unsatisfied? Confusing? Strange? I'm not sure how to sum up my group's experience. The parking lot out back was difficult to get into because of a large moving truck blocking half the drive. At least there was a spot open.

Inside, we tried to figure out what to order, but the only menu on the wall was very dimly lit and was printed in a font that was nearly impossible to read. Finally, we realized you could just order a torta with meat, and it came with all the fixings.

We ordered, not expecting the misfortune that would befall us. I tried to use the men's room, but the door wouldn't close. It was misaligned with the frame. Needless to say, that didn't end well.

I came back to our table and we began enjoying our juaritos, and maybe 5 minutes later they informed us they were out of pastor. Not a problem, we got asada and chicken instead. Then we waited.

And waited.

40 minutes later, they finally called our number. The food was... Mostly fine? I had a weird torta with pineapple and breaded steak, which was definitely the worst of the three tortas we got. The asada and chicken were fine. But... What took so long? Why did three mediocre sandwiches take over 40 minutes to make?

Great atmosphere and nice looking inside, but I feel like they gave me a bad torta on purpose. Asked for non pork options, she seemed lost in translation. I asked for a torta that's dipped in red chili sauce and wanted a chicken and carne asada torta with fries inside like on the commercial.... what I got instead was a small , shriveled up and dried boot leather chicken that seemed old. A lil scoop of guacamole... a shitload of red sauce that overcooked and overpowered the sandwich. Cheese was skimpy ... so plain and dry. They didn't put the fries inside and didn't dip the bread and cook it like I asked ...smh ...I should have checked it before I left , seeing that I live far away. I would have went to the taco truck down the way instead if I knew how sub par this food was. You guys really need an English speaking person at the counter. I'm really mad that I paid for that garbage. The papaya milkshakes was bussin tho ...the shake was 🔥🔥🔥🔥...so they did that great at least. But this was the worst torta I've ever had in Stockton California. You guys served me a DR.scholls shoe insole and had the audacity to call it chicken....didn't even put steak on it . But charged me for it ...SMH ...PLEASE DO...

They have about 3 of these restaurants I can't tell you which one I visited I forgot the street name.but let me tell you the tortas are fire! Huge with lots of meat and flavor I got the deliciosa.it had carne asada bacon cheese aguacate slices tomato and lettuce,my husband had the alemana it was so good too.so I gave him half of mine I got half of his.They are huge and delicious like no other and like $13 each you can't go wrong.my daughter got 2 hopes de carne asada they also was tasty thin masa crust and a load of meat and the topping.This is my new spot in Stockton I can't wait to yey all their tortas they have alot! The place is small but very clean and cozy family oriented.They have aguas frescas and other food items like gorditas de chicharon,menudo carne en su jugo I think I read and birria tacos and tacos with fries that I saw someone eating and they looked hella good! 😋 I recommend this place you're gonna love it! They also have a salsa cart with alot of different toppings! My picture don't do it justice just come see...
