Honestly very bland overall which I should have expected being in VT. I ordered chicken chow mein and Mongolian beef (which I will say is not on the menu but they were nice enough to make for me). The issue is with the food itself first and foremost Mongolian beef is meant to be spicy. On a level of 1-10 for spice I would give this a 0. There was not a single whole chili pepper in the dish which, if you’ve had it before, you know is normal. I understand it’s not a typical menu item, fine. The real disappointment is the chicken chow mein. There were absolutely no noodles. The entire dish was an extremely bland blend of chicken, cabbage, and bean sprouts. When I called back to complain the worker whom I had ordered and picked up from told me that chow mein does not have noodles and that is lo mein, she also stated it does not have noodles in Vermont and it’s just cabbage, bean sprouts, and bok choy. I take a lot of issue with this:
Chow Mein DOES have noodles. Literally the word “mein” means noodle, notice how it’s used in the name of both dishes. I know the difference between lo mein and chow mein and that many Americans confuse the two.
There was absolutely no Bok Choy in that mix, again I’ve had Bok Choy many times and I even use it when cooking myself since I am half Asian.
“Chow Mein does not have noodles in Vermont”, excuse me? Chow Mein has noodles period (see #1). It was a poor excuse, dare I say blatant lie, for a mistake on the restaurant’s part that should have been at the very least apologized for. Honestly if this had happened to me back home (Las Vegas) I would have been refunded for the dish or offered a different one to make up for the “misunderstanding” or in this case inaccuracy.
I was not impressed with other parts of my meal either including their duck sauce, egg rolls, and fried noodles, none of which are up to par with what I’m used to from a Chinese restaurant whether r be takeout or not.
Overall I wouldn’t recommend and I should have known better myself but it’s one of the few places in town I thought I might find food that reminds me of home, I was wrong. Save yourself the time and effort if you’re used to eating good American Chinese or authentic Chinese food especially I will...
Read moreI strongly believe and bet money on ..that the food they are serving today is pre COVID. I also believe it was left in the freezer and it had a couple of defrosts and refreezes along the way. I honestly can eat almost anything but this was just horrible. The wonton soup had a strange taste and figured (actually hoping it was just curry). Not to mention the awful color it gave . The second wonton I ate was honest to God rancid. I kid you not. I couldn’t spit it out fast enough The rice was old and chewy and had no flavor at all . Not only that the peas were wrinkly. Shriveled wrinkly peas! Which led me to believe it was old!! The crispy noodles for the soup had a strange stale oily flavor and turned gummy while chewing. The egg roll had a horrible odor and strange color not to mention the wrapper was for sure freezer burned. I also had the pepper steak and onions. The sauce had a strange flavor and the steak was really slimy. But at least the peppers and onions were fresh. I really hate the fact that I had to be so harsh but it was truly the worst...
Read moreI haven't been to Sanfo in quite some time and was desperate for something light. What a pleasant surprise on many counts. The Chinese couple that have been operating the restaurant on a shoe string have continued to make improvements to the interior. As well we now bear witness to a second daughter. The oldest is so helpful and appropriate. At three in the afternoon I ordered a General Tao Tofu. The portions of tofu were plentiful and lightly fried with a mild sweet sauce. Three hours later, my satisfaction with the food resulted in my wife wanting the same. I complied to go back because indulgence of good Chinese food is easy. For dinner I added General Tao chicken to combine with the Tofu.. Again the chicken dish was excellent, moist interior balls with a non breaded, crispy exterior in a sweet sauce with crisp broccoli. A huge surprise that works on a takeout basis only and from my experience invites further exploration of the...
