This place is a gem of a local restaurant. It is clean and spacious. The service is above average and it is a family oriented restaurant that is unashamedly local. The kitchen is well run and organised and can keep up with the ebb and flow as the place goes from half-empty to busting at the seams. The food, the food you ask. Every time I have been here--that would be twice now--I have done so for lunch and so have avoided anything too big to allow hitting the road again. I have had the ribeye steak and the grilled pork tenderloin sandwiches so far, my father has had a couple of different burgers. All of these are excellent choices. All sandwiches come with a side. The fries are seasoned, crisp and plentiful. The onion rings are real, beautiful golden brown and crisp. OK, big deal, those are sandwiches. Well based on observation alone--the size of my belly will tell you that I can tell good food with eyes and nose alone--the food here is not your average food. Every deep fried dish I watched come out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked. They understand both the art and the science of deep frying and that is no small accomplishment. We were there on a Wednesday and the fried shrimp and chicken livers were flowing out the kitchen window. I loved my sandwich but was very envious of those getting the popcorn shrimp. I would love to try the fried chicken, I bet it is as good as the Shrimp Boat in Rock Hill, SC. If you are ever near I would suggest you stop. The breakfast menu is large, reasonable and I'm betting equal to the lunches. The rest of the menu is fairly expansive and they have daily specials. I got to get there on a Thursday so I can try the fried chicken special. I asked the waitress what were they famous for? It seems most restaurants do at least one thing better than the rest. When she responded, "Everything." I kind of rolled my eyes. But I think she just may be right. I'll let you know in...
Read moreThis was the first time we had gone to SFR. Funny thing, when I googled it, it actually showed a pic of Hardee's which was across the street. Weird, huh?! Anyway, this is in the same place as the old Tex-BBQ used to be.
Anyway, upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by Joyce, and she so kindly moved us to a different table that was not so close to the door.
The restrooms were clean, stocked, and had hot water.
The inside walls of the restaurant were decorated with an eclectic collection of county looking items. It was really neat.
The place was pretty packed, and even has a Drive-Thru.
We watched some dinners come out that not only looked good, they looked to be large portions for your money.
Our Server was Taylor (she just graduated from Highschool - Go Cougars). Even though as I said the place was pretty busy, she really took her time with us. Based on our questions, she gave us some recommendations on what she thought we'd like.
She was spot on! I got the Catfish special with Fried Squash, Hush Puppies, and my husband got the Mushroom Burger with Potato Salad.
This place was recommended by a friend of mine. She told me it is a family style restaurant, and it did have that family feeling.🤗
They have breakfast there too.
So if you're out near Stuart, I highly recommend you visit this place, we'll definitely go there again!
Have a great day, and please be safe!🤗
Check out...
Read moreKnow what you're getting into here and you'll be happy. Past breakfast it's one of those places whose menu is as big as what can go from their freezer to a deep fryer or griddle, but it's great service and good value for money and you won't leave hungry.
Had the country-fried steak and whitefish fish and chips. The country fried steak was thicker than expected (like the cube steak hadn't been pounded out as I'm used to) which was tender and crispy; the hush puppies were the standard slightly-too-sweet-from-a-bag, but fine, and the fried okra was great. The whitefish were the thin food-service fillets you're used to from church fish-fries where you are sometimes only eating breading, but seasoned and fried well.
It's a little run-down with random deer-antler chandeliers and such, but it's clean. Our server was great and attentive. Definitely looking forward to stopping by the place for a breakfast.
It's the kind of place that you are perfectly happy to stop by when you're on the way to somewhere, but is missing a special menu item that makes it a destination for a detour (like fresh-made big hush puppies...
