They are a five star establishment for non disabled customers. But it's pretty hard for businesses in older buildings to get the fifth for those of us in wheelchairs. So they're only four stars because of incomplete wheelchair accommodations. But the staff does there best with the resources they have. That was my only complaint. Everything else was awesome. At first I thought the food was a bit pricey, but it really is a good value for what you get (both quality and quantity). That was a nice surprise. The Wooden Nickel had great food, great staff, and even live music (the night I was there). The bar staff was incredibly knowledgeable. I always ask about mixed drinks from the 80's, and their staff had no problem with these. Other places just shrug their shoulders and give up without even trying - but the Wooden Nickel staff aced my questions and could mix anything with ease. I should note that they are also equally well versed in contemporary drinks as well. I should note that they didn't require me to order drinks to listen to the music (a dinner order was just fine by then); which was very nice of them. This highlighted the small town charm that permeates everything they do. Ultimately I ordered my food to go after quizzing them on their knowledge of their own menu and drinks. I will definitely return, and I'll try to blend in a little more (as much as possible with a wheelchair). I should note that they also had a karaoke night (Friday), and had other events scheduled as well. I'll definitely be checking out their upcoming schedule before returning so I can get the most out of my evening. Very glad I was hungry enough to stop in. I now can see why it's such a popular place to be in...
Read moreI am only putting this on here because there is no effort from anyone here, ive stopped by here a few times in the last 10+ years and its a terrible mix of employees besides the brunette woman in her late 40s. If i cared about my business, she would be in charge. Service here is always non-existent. It took 19 minutes to get our first drink and we were standing at the bar, all while their "regulars" went ahead of the line and got what they wanted on the spot. why would you not serve new patrons first. We almost walked out because of the incognizant neglect. They served one man a draft beer, the other a bottle, which is exactly what we ordered after them. After that we sat at an open table in the back to be harassed passive aggressively by a blonde server in her late 30s. ;newer gal. She asked if we were ready to order food about 2 minutes after we got menus, we said not yet and another 2 minutes later she showed up again and moved us to another table that was one table away, sat for 30 minutes and never saw her again. I wanted to get dinner there. But its just such a hassle. Ive had the same issues every time i go. The work environment there needs help. The brunette gal i mentioned should run the place because she has more than half a brain which is being courteous to the other folk that ive talked to at the wooden nickel. Bring back the respect. I tell everyone i know to not go to this place unless you want to work for your food and/or beverages. Sell the place. Glenn. You obviously cannot handle running a business. You abuse...
Read moreThe menu was very expensive and the food was meh. I don't know how it's rated $10-$20 on here because there was hardly anything on the menu below $16 besides the kids menu. Even the appetizers. The brisket on my brisket Mac & cheese was more like the end of a bag of jerky, just dry little bits. I told my teens they could only order the special, to try and keep the bill down. The server offered them options that were extra, without telling us they were extra. By the time she was done up-charging us I could have let them order whatever they wanted. The sweet potato fries were overcooked. Normally I "justify" the high price of eating out because I can take at least half home and it's really like two meals for that price, not so bad. But the mac & cheese was not edible after reheating, all the cheese just became a puddle of oil. Disgusting. They also charged us $2 apiece for soda water without telling us. Most places do not charge for soda water. I'm not normally one to send things back especially for a locally owned (not chain) kitchen. But if I had known all the little charges that were making my bill so much higher than I expected, I absolutely would have sent it back. All that being said, the server was very friendly. I could recommend this place if they were more upfront about their upcharges and had a better eye on...
