I realize that you can't please everyone, and unfortunately I was not pleased with our visit to "The Longboard" but my wife was... We are two very different people, so this review is from my side. We arrived just after 5pm and were told a 30 minute wait. We went inside to the standing bar area and ordered some drinks. Before our drinks arrived our table was ready (about 10 minutes since we put our name on the list, which was great - earlier than originally estimated). We were seated outside and unfortunately the late afternoon sun was beaming in my eyes the entire dinner. I was hungry as I worked through lunch and was really looking forward to a good filling meal, but when I got the menu I flipped it over to see the rest and was confronted with a list of drinks. The menu was sparse and mostly seafood which I love, but I was hungry and wanted something filling. So choose the beef "meal" (it was not a meal it was an appetizer priced as a meal) and was looking forward to it, but it turned out to be just 'meh' and the beans were not appealing so I left those on the plate. We ordered the octopus which was amazing and I highly recommend you try. I found myself eating the potatoes on the squid plate to get my money's worth and to satisfy my hunger. I never eat potatoes as I refer to them as filler in a meal. We also ordered the ceviche which I did not care for. To me the flavors were off and the "chips" they provided just did not "go" with the dish in my opinion, but again we finished all of it and I scrapped up what ever bits were left, because I was hungry. We ordered a dozen oysters, which there's not much to say about oysters other than these were over priced for what you can get anywhere. I wasn't really feeling the beer I order, so I asked for the "tourist" (rotating out of the area beer) but they were out and did not have another IPA, so I decided to drink water. Not being fully satisfied we asked for the dessert menu and.... there was none! Seriously? I was super disappointed at this point and asked for the check, which as you could probably guess was super high for on two people with 3 VERY small plates and 12 oysters. So in short, if you have disposable income and don't mind over paying for food, I guess you've found the right place. The location is great and the ambience was spot on, so if they add some "meals" to the menu this could be a great location, but it's clear they are not catering to the average Joe. We went home and snacked on chips and I fixed myself a another drink. I have to be clear that don't mind paying "a lot of money" for food, if it's "worth it" but - in my opinion - felt like this place missed the mark and am very disappointed and will definitely not be going back - However my wife may go without me as she does not look at food measured in value as I do, so you can make up your mind on...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of revisiting The Longboard on Sullivan’s Island, and I must say, it was a completely different experience compared to my first visit. To be honest, after my initial visit, I was left feeling rather underwhelmed. The food and overall experience didn’t quite live up to the hype, and I was hesitant about giving it another try. However, this latest visit absolutely blew me away, and I’m so glad I decided to give it a second chance!
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt lively and welcoming. The staff were incredibly attentive, and it was clear from the start that they were committed to making up for our previous experience. Their attentiveness and warmth instantly set a positive tone for the evening, making us feel like valued guests.
Now, onto the most important part: the food. I ordered the pork chop, while my fiancée opted for the chicken pad Thai, and both dishes were absolutely phenomenal. The pork chop was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. It was easily one of the best pork chops I’ve had in a long time, and the accompanying sides were equally impressive. My fiancée’s chicken pad Thai was a delightful mix of textures and flavors, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. It’s not often that every dish at a restaurant exceeds expectations, but The Longboard nailed it on all fronts.
The drinks were just as outstanding. We tried a couple of their signature cocktails, and they were both expertly crafted—refreshing and unique, with flavors that perfectly complemented our meals. Whether you're a cocktail aficionado or simply looking for something fun and delicious, their drink menu does not disappoint.
But beyond the food and drinks, what really stood out to me was the service. The team at The Longboard went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was perfect from start to finish. They were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and truly seemed to care about making our night special. It felt like they genuinely wanted us to have a great time, and their efforts made all the difference.
Overall, this visit was nothing short of spectacular. The Longboard has completely redeemed itself in my eyes, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. The combination of incredible food, expertly mixed drinks, and top-notch service makes The Longboard a standout on Sullivan’s Island. I can’t...
Read moreI wish I could give 0 stars. I have never had to write a bad review ever in my life but here I am lol
I have never been treated so rudely as soon as I walked in. My sister, coworker, and I came here to grab a drink after work. We order our drinks and the young blonde (under age looking) bartender asks for our ids - which is no issue as my sister and I are very small and get id’d every time. After we hand them to her she stares us into the eyes making rude faces at us and all of a sudden walks to the back without saying anything. She comes back and tells us they were all fake.. we’re 23, almost 26, and 27. We all laugh and say “what” because we thought it was a prank at first. She then goes back to the back and we can see at least 3-4 people huddled around our cards. The person I’m assuming was the manager comes back and asks to see another form of id - thank god Missouri requires a liquor license class to be a waitress so that I was able to prove my age!! We left this place immediately after they realized they messed up and the ids were all real.
!!Shoutout to Poe’s tavern for always being so nice and getting us in quick! I should have known better than to try somewhere else on Sullivan’s!!
Edit: Called to ask the manager why they flagged all 3 of our id’s and if this was common to treat people like this.. she said that they can’t accept any ids that have rips or tears around the edges and that all 3 of ours were ripped/torn/un-useable. the bartender had told us in the restaurant that it was because they “felt weird when bending them”? wish they could get their story straight. attaching photos of all 4 sides of my id (with sticky notes covering front and back to hide my personal information). You can clearly see that there are no rips or...
