Very cute, small restaurant. Right off of Rt 1, easy access to get into and out of. The restaurant seats about 40 people, and they also have a bar that seats 10. We went for Sunday brunch, and the menu was limited but still had something for everyone. Ordered coffee, it was luke warm but they got us another cup. We all ordered breakfast dishes. The sausage gravy was loaded with sausage. You can't mess up eggs, bacon, and potatoes. The bathroom was clean, but it is small. There is a ramp for a wheelchair. However, the entrance is small, so it may be challenging to get in. Once inside, you can easily move around.

If you are tired of seafood shacks and so-so food, give this non assuming restaurant a try. I can assure you it's much better than any of the chain restaurants in the Ellsworth area. Our server was great and probably the best we've had in a decade! Desserts are freshly made and awesome as well. If you are passing through or a local, definitely check this place out!

Recently I returned to the region for another summer and stopped in for a traditional breakfast. The renovation work that had been done to the once popular eatery were truly amazing. The modern feel and well designed dining room space creates a comfortable atmosphere for all who stop. The traditional New England breakfast of eggs, bacon, home fries and French toast was delicious! Having owned a restaurant for many years, I realized the home fries were better than any I’d ever serviced. Not sure of their secret, but having grown up in potato country as an adult I often skip over this part of the meal, but that morning I found myself haven eaten them all and wanting more. The service staff were terrific ! Friendly and prompt they checked back, refilled the coffee and inquired about my satisfaction with the food. The breakfast was so good that just a couple days later I found myself stopping for lunch. Again, I wasn’t disappointed, but amazed by the quality of the food and the reasonable prices. Needless to say, I will be making this a regular stop weekly and encourage locals and visitors who liked “Chester Pukes” to stop in and discover the awesome job being done by the owners and staff of the Black Sheep...

Had breakfast and diner there, both were good, recommend the bis units and gravy. I like mine with soft scrambled eggs, the biscuits were exceptional as was the gravy, however the eggs were over cooked and missed the mark. We decided on same place for diner and chose the diner special Steak tips which were indeed as advertised " very good", seasoned well cooked perfect...they had no indoor seating so we ate in the dark outside which got rather chilly. I recommend breakfast as well as diner there...worth it, especially in the area. If management is reading this expand the dining area to west add better bar area maybe fireplace and 6 to 8...
