On this rainy Wednesday I found myself at Genuine Flava. As I walked into this restaurant I was reminded of a time where fresh home cooked food was good. The moment I walked into this restaurant I was welcomed like family. Even a customer who was leaving as I walked into the restaurant was kind. This was a relatively small restaurant with a few tables and a counter to sit at while you wait for your food. The saying that ācleanliness is next to godlinessā is right on point at this restaurant. So, with confidence, I placed my order from the hand written menu that was easily seen from the floor. Everyday there is something different with a wide variety of options to choose from. Today I ordered a fried chicken dinner with rice and gravy and black eyed peas on top and the best oven baked macaroni and cheese I ever had on the side. The sweet iced tea and cornbread was excellent as well. While waiting on my order I spoke with Parker who worked the register. We spoke about the community, the restaurant and some about my travels. A few minutes passed by and then the nice lady who took my order brought out my food with the same level of kindness as she first greeted me with. Genuine Flava is good because they take the time to know their customers and they provide good quality food for the soul. Thatās the way you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI traveled 2 hours from Charlotte because I heard they have great tasting soul food and they sale my favorite dish on fridays; chitterlings š¤. Was told to get there early because they sale out quick. I Arrived around 12:30, the gentleman had taken a man's order before mine and my guest, he ordered chitterlings as well. When I placed my order for chitterlings the female server asked if their was enough, they said yes. When the gentlemans order came, I was so excited, more than half his plate was covered with chitterlings and rice. When mine came my portion of chitterlings was smaller and my guests was a little more than mine. The rice had a few hard pieces which is never a good thing. I also had the string beans and cornbread which were good. I wonder if me and my guest had ordered the pork chops (which I heard were excellent), would they have spit it because they were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOld school Southern food joint. The way it used to be and the way it should stay. Hole in the wall place off the beaten path in Sumter. Food was awesome, fresh and definitely authentic Southern. 3 people, got 3 meals and I tasted them all and all were fantastic. Will be going for oxtails on Thursday. Large portions but 3 people was $50. A smidge pricey but worth it once in a while. Everyone there was incredibly friendly, another Southern trait that's slowly fading in many places. On a side note, stop all the construction and moving outsiders in or this "feel" will become extinct. Buy local and keep these places open! Prices are getting up there for a stop by for lunch situation so -1 ā. Everything else...
