Two strikes and they’re out - overcooked my food badly twice! Heard great things on my quest to try every Chinese place in town, and the first time they outright burned my food. Hearing such great reviews I thought it must be a fluke, but I came back and my food was yet again way over cooked. Last time I couldn’t eat all of it due to the burning, this time it was legitimately hard to chew the General Tso’s it was so well done. Potentially due to poor quality chicken with a ton of breading… I like that they use a good bit of pepper, but two strikes is all they’ll get from me for $15 for chef Specialty plates. I thought the fried rice was somewhat bland too. Maybe I’m the unlucky one, but they’re 0/2 with me.

A spicy stew! A spicy stew! Delicious Szechuan bean curd! A spicy stew!!! Ming Tree is one of the few places in Tallahassee where you can get authentic delicious Chinese cuisine. If you like that deep fried general tso's garbage, go elsewhere. I like to try a new dish every time I go. Although, the Kung Pao shrimp might have captured my heart for a little while. And szechuan fish is a go to also. All the dishes I've had from this restaurant are spiced to perfection & layered with flavor. The customer service is also very authentic. Lol. IYKYK.

As a first time customer, I am severely disappointed with Ming Tree. The chicken and broccoli came in a water sauce and the chicken was undercooked, since I am pregnant, I could not enjoy the semi-cooked chicken dish and I am glad I checked before eating. The fried rice was dry and bland. The egg roll was the best part of the meal. Portion sizes are standard too. I would normally give a restaurant a second chance but the uncooked chicken coupled with the unpleasant waitress over the phone, I will probably stick with Emerald Garden.

This is the second time i am going to this place. First time I went it was around 8.20pm and the owner said "we are closing at 9pm, can you do take out"? I said fine but i was wondering to myself there is more than enough time to order and eat in 40 mins. Second time I went it was 7.45pm, went with my family (4 members). We were waiting for table as it was all occupied. At around 8pm she asked us if we could share the table with another couple? And her reason was " Oh we close at 9pm". Why even open your store if you are so keen in closing already. I would have given 1 star but the food was decent enough. we ordered Vegetable roles (It was all cold from inside), Tofu with mushrooms was good. Lo Mein was good as well. But the quantity is very less compared to other Chinese places. Chinese food is known for its huge portions..but this restaurant is a disappoint. I dont know why people rave so much...

Conclusion: The most authentic Chinese restaurant in Tallahassee.

Food and Price (4/5): I've tried a variety of dishes and liked every single one of them. The flavor is comparable to what you get in NYC or SF Chinatown; enough food at a reasonable price.

Service & Atmosphere (4/5): It is usually crowded, but it's worth the wait. The service can be excellent to OK, depending on who serves you.

Bottom line: Ming Tree Cafe or China Delight? Apparently, these two share the same history, and they are both good in their own ways. If you're looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant that makes you feel like you're in China, then go to Ming Tree. If you're taking a large group, looking for somewhere quiet or closer to Downtown, or lunch special deals, then China Delight it is.

This was a review based on my personal experience; I acknowledge that every person has unique preferences...

I used to love going to this place and getting the fried rice. Shortly after Ming Tree reopened from the quarantine, I ordered my usual dish but much to my dismay, my rice was both cold and undercooked. It was as if they pulled the rice from the fridge, threw it in a pan for one literal minute and then packaged it up to-go. My family and I ordered four cartons of fried rice, and they all shared the same taste of disappointment, so this was certainly not a fluke. My sister also ordered the garlic chicken and it was absolutely disgusting---like they had forgotten to add the garlic...or any seasoning for that matter. Considering that their prices have gone up, it is a shame that their food quality has taken a nose dive. I will...
