Hwy 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries — Restaurant in Tarboro

The food was phenomenal! Hwy 55 has two sizes of burgers--one small and one larger. I ordered the larger one, and when it was brought to me, it was bigger than the bun! I didn't have to order it well done, and when I bit into it, oh my, it was good and juicy and cooked perfectly. I had the tater tots with it, and an 'orangeade.' That's their lemonade with freshly squeezed lemons and freshly squeezed oranges added to it. The orangeade was so good, way better than Wendy's Dave's signature lemonade. As soon as I took a sip, I could taste the freshly squeezed lemons and oranges. It was like drinking an orange, with a splash of lemon juice. I do think this drink had alot of sugar in it, so I only drank half of it. The orangeade was a little more than a regular soda, but it was worth it. My overall total for just myself to eat was a whopping $11.38!! That's why I'm giving it four stars instead of five. And I did get the bigger burger, instead of the smaller one. Would I return? UPDATE: 04/04/23 Returned for lunch and enjoyed the delicious Shrimp Platter with Tots and Slaw. Service was again awesome just as it was during my last visit! I received my food quickly, and it was hot, fresh and delicious 😋 Both Restaurant and Restrooms were clean! Another great visit!

This is a wonderful restaurant full of color, nostalgia and some of the kindest servers and cooks you will find anywhere! We went right in and chose our table, there was no wait, and our server Janelle came right over promptly. We ordered a Cheesteak meal with Gravy Tots and a Hamburger Steak Plate with Onion Rings. We had a very short wait for our food, you can see the cooks working and they are focused and committed! Our food was served hot and with a smile, our cups never went empty, and both our server as well as a member of the cooking staff checked up on us, I have no negatives here, it was a great experience! Ate here yesterday. The service was awful. My husband asked for a pimento cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce and tomato. The burger came with no bacon. After about 10 minutes a waitress looked our way and we told her the burger had no bacon. She called for a side of bacon. After sitting there another 10 minutes we flagged another waitress down and she took the burger and ask for some bacon. Finally bacon and burger came. All was good. We got up and paid the bill and while we were standing there paying we ask for refills. We were told we would have to wait because she needed to take the next 2 people's in line money.
