Hill House Restaurant — Restaurant in Taylor Township

One of the best kept secrets in Lawrence County. Not that it's a very well kept secret anymore because they are quite busy. Lunch here is always fast friendly and delicious! Prices are unbeatable and service is Wonderful! On Fridays, when my father and his friends have lunch there, I usually stay back and man the office, like I did today. I'm more of a Hermit, lol. Today, I had the broiled fish with green beans and rice -- I know that Sounds very plain but if you don't do it really well, it's horrible. The fish was, tender, flaky and flavorful and the green beans were perfect; soft but not overcooked, bright green and delicious! Since my wife never eats all of her lunch, I also got to taste hers, which was the delicious battered, fried version of the same delicious fish. The coleslaw was fantastic and These are kine fries which are to die for! We also had a bowl of clam chowder, which was incredible! I don't typically go to a restaurant for lunch to see a beautiful waterfall or a fountain that changes colors -- Nor do I care if they have a sliding board or a playground for my kids. I simply go to have a great meal for a fair price. I'm happy even if the service is barely adequate. Well, I can't comment on that this time because I got mine to go, But I know that from the time they left till the time they got back to the office, it was barely 40 minutes. Literally sitting atop of a rolling hill (with a rolling, heavily-sloped parking lot), is the Hill House. Places like this have vanished from much of the American landscape, so it’s a real treat to have dinner at a no-frills-as-it-is-and-will-always-be straightforward restaurant. While the seating area is quite plain, the staff is much nicer. Places like this are reasons why I love traveling across the nation, finding hidden gems. Their stuffed chicken is wonderful. It starts and ends with the food... everything ordered by our party of five was excellent... you know when you say, "you gotta try this" and give someone at the table a bite, yeah, it's that good... they were short staffed (as is everywhere currently) but the service and food did not suffer for it... good portions for big eaters and plenty of leftovers for light eaters... very reasonable on price as well... 5 in our party (2 children) was $45... will definitely be back, many...
