There are countless articles boasting about the best places to eat kolaches in Texas, but if they fail to mention Kolache Kitchen in Temple, they haven’t seen anything yet. This little spot, run by Carol White—who learned the craft from her Czech grandmother—is an absolute Texas Czech treasure. The moment you walk in, you’re transported to a simpler time, like when your grandpa would head to the local coffee shop to gossip with friends. It’s small, cozy, and wonderfully unmodernized. It doesn’t need to be—it’s authentic, just as it is. My personal favorites are the strawberry cream cheese and apricot kolaches. In fact, I loved them so much that I served them at my wedding (because let’s be honest, when you’re Czech, a kolache tower is a must!). The cinnamon rolls are equally heavenly, with just the right balance of cinnamon, sugar, and softness. If you’re in the mood for something savory, the sausage kolaches are a must-try. And don’t leave without grabbing a few dozen day-old kolaches to go—freeze them or eat on the way home. :)

After watching Day tripper, we had to try this place. A 40 + year history of making kolaches with their family Czech recipe makes this place a must try. I tried the jalapeño and cheese sausage link kolache and it was delicious! The quality and portion size were great, and the taste was fantastic. The combination of spicy jalapeños and creamy cheese was a perfect match. I also tried the blueberry fruit kolache and it was equally tasty. The blueberry filling was sweet and flavorful, and the pastry was light and flaky. I would definitely recommend trying these delicious kolaches!

We stopped at this bakery on our way from Houston to Lubbock, Texas. We always try to find unique and interesting bakeries. This one was no disappointment. Although it looks nondescript from the outside, and you might be concerned about the parking area, the interior is cute and welcoming. Tina helped us with our choices, assisting us in making good decisions. The owner of 40 years, Carol, was there to tell us a little bit about the history.

Terrific breakfast foods! This business is family owner and run, they have multiple generations working and have old school fruit and breakfast kolaches. The fruit and cheese kolaches are an experience that you should have on your bucket list if you don’t live in this area, and if you do live here you probably are already going here several times a week if not everyday… the breakfast kolaches are a treat that you should definitely try each one at least once because you may find that you love foods that previously you never thought of as something you would like. I have never liked sauerkraut or even had a desire to try it at all but this location offers a sauerkraut, sausage, jalapeño, and two cheese breakfast kolache that I will return to have anytime I am in the area!! And their bread pudding was not only affordable but the best bread pudding that I...
