Always looking for good food in the area and I was not dissapointed. A little out of the way; but worth the drive. To be honest the outside is not representative of the inside ( I think a little color and greenery would go a long way), so I was pleasantly surprised when I stepped inside. I was immediately acknowledged by the owner who asked if this was my first time..Yes! His partner then did a great job of explaining the menu and what seemed to be most popular. Based on that suggestion I ordered Mary's Melt with a side of Mac/ Cheese with a bottle of Pepsi. Total $13.36. While I was waiting they brought out a small sample of their pimento cheese dip and crackers. With Yeugling in the ice chest it felt like I was back in Pittsburgh! When my sandwich came out the bread was still warm, the toppings fresh and the turkey moist. The Mac/Cheese was light and creamy. The serving size so large I took some back for a late night snack. While I was there 2 new to the restaurant customers came in and were greeted with the same cheeriness. I will definitely come back...
Read moreWe decided to stop at this charming roadside cafe on our way back home from Nashville. Wow! Bruce's Bomber which is sliced roast beef, bacon, smoked gouda, lettuce, onion and Chipotle mayo was fantastic! 🤤 Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! (I'm gluten-free and I couldn't resist eating a portion of the delicious super soft potato roll (lightly grilled inside) that it is served on! I'll be paying for that later but I thoroughly enjoyed it and it's worth it!) The Chipotle mayo complemented it perfectly and had that little touch of spice which I love!!! We also ordered the Mary's melt which is turkey, ham, bacon, pepper jack cheese, house sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion and it was fabulous as well! One side is included with your Hot Melt, we opted for potato chips and the bean and ham soup, so delicious! I'm sad that this place is so far away from Charleston ... hmmm... 🤔💡 maybe open a second Long Road cafe...
Read moreI came across The Long Road Café while visiting Mayland for Decoration Day. Having grown up spending summers with my Grandparents just down the road, the building was familiar to me but the sign out front was new, and my curiosity got the better of me, so I went in to check it out.
The combination gas station, market, and deli, (with a potbelly stove and cooler full of ice cream treats and popsicles) that I remembered from my childhood had been transformed to a friendly café with two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet as owners.
There menu is varied with salads, subs, paninis, and sandwiches. The food was great, and I enjoyed it almost as much as I did the conversation with Bruce and Mary Beth.
Stop in and enjoy some great food and support these nice folks!
