If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We had reservations at The Greenbrier in Gatlinburg for our 30th wedding anniversary. We got there, ordered our drinks, appetizers and entrees. However, into our soup and salad portion of the meal, the power went out. The waiter told us we were good because he got our entrees order in before the power went out. All was good. We figured as long as they had been in business and being where they were located, surely they had a generator. Nope! After a few minutes, our waiter returned to tell us our meal was a no go. Unfortunately due to the vent not having power, they had to turn the gas off just before our order was to cook. He stated he had no clue when the power would come back on. His history with power loss there was it usually doesn't come back on. We had waited months to go there and eat. So, we get in our car and start driving. Had decided we were not attempting downtown Gatlinburg because of Spring Break, so we headed towards Cosby/Newport. Along the way I was searching for somewhere to go. Two places came up on my search with great reviews. However, we opted for the closer one which was The Woodshed. We both had to laugh at how our night had progressed. My husband even joked he was going to tell everyone that he took me out to The Woodshed for our anniversary.
Upon arriving inside, we were met by a hostess who informed us that the wait was about 30 minutes. We told her it was fine, we had already had our night ruined by a power outage at The Greenbrier for our anniversary dinner and immediately the sweet lady (with a sling on) gave the hostess two menus and told her to seat us immediately in Wendy's section. That was the first 10 stars for us. Then Wendy took our drink order and while she was gone, the sweet lady that had us seated, who we learned was Tammy the owner, came by and made sure that we had gotten our drink order taken. Wendy got back and suggested we order the 8 oz. filet that were cut into two medallions. That's what I ordered and my husband ordered the ribeye. Food took normal time to get out and when the steaks arrived, oh goodness they were amazing. 10 star #2 for us. But the best part was prior to ordering, I asked about desserts as I didn't see any on the menu and I am a dessert girl. Tammy and Wendy said that the chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake was to die for but Wendy stated there was only one piece left and she thought it had been taken. Tammy immediately went to the kitchen and make sure to put that piece aside just for us. After our fabulous steaks, Wendy brought out our dessert which she described as "sin on a plate" and she was not joking. 10 star #3, absolutely amazing. Tammy even set down at the booth with us and we got some history on the restaurant.
I don't normally write reviews this long but what turned out to be wrecked dinner plans, ended up being one of the best meals we have eaten and some of the best service we have received. We have been to quite a few high end restaurants (boujee as I say), but the service at this little hometown gem cannot be measured by stars. If you want a day trip from Knoxville, or want somewhere to stop along the way to the east coast or Asheville, or you are just in the vicinity of Gatlinburg and want something different, it is well...
Read moreMy Family tried to eat there after a funeral of a dear family member. We were already upset enough to be treated so badly by the hostess and the owners daughter. Me and 2 other family members were the first to arrive because some of the family members were telling some out of town visitors bye and the way we were parked some couldn’t leave as fast. The family grave yard was just around the corner. It was around 2:30 on Friday March 18th. It wasn’t busy at all. They only had a couple of tables. I immediately explained that we were the immediate family coming from a funeral. They had a table that seated 12 and there were going to be 11 of us. I asked if we could please have the 12 top table. The hostess asked if we were all there. I told her not yet but it wouldn’t be long because they were close. She then said hatefully that it’s Michelle’s rule. I asked if she was there and she yelled at me saying Michelle was at school because she’s a teacher! Four more of our family members arrived with only 4 left to arrive. I said now can we please have the 12 top with 7 of us there there. The owners daughter came out and said since we weren’t all there we could only have an 8 top. I again plead with her that the other 4 would arrive shortly and that they had many vacant tables. She immediately said “THESE ARE OUR RULES AND IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, YOU CAN LEAVE!” I immediately told her that I would be talking to the owner Michelle about how we had been treated. She immediately said “ You just go right ahead because Michelle the owner is my mother and I just got off of the phone with her!” Half of us left and half stayed. The others arrived and they had them all seated apart. The ones that stayed said the food was awful and the prices were way too high. I WILL...
Read moreWhat a great restaurant! Set back from the road, but not far... up a fair incline on gravel, into a parking lot that is bound to be full when you go there, as all the locals know and love this semi-hidden gem. The building is rustic-looking with the interior decor coming straight from a local barn tear-down. Service is excellent, very friendly and attentive. Sadly, we didn't get our server's name, but I was told by the owner we were served by her daughter (Thank you, young lady, for the great dinner experience!). The menu is thankfully not overwhelming, but covers the 'Something for Everyone' catagory. Our group of four ate from the sandwich, the salad and the steak items, as well as having a couple of appetizers (Loaded Potato Skins were amazing! ). ALL dinners were noteworthy, the Pulled Pork sandwich was huge, the Chicken salad , piled high and topped with a LOT of chicken chunks, and the Rib Eye and Hamburger Steak were about the most flavorful we've had; perfectly seasoned and grilled exactly to order. Portions were huge, but one person in our party having a healthy appetite was able to save room for desert: their wonderful Pineapple Upside Down Cake... a delicious creation of cake, pineapple, caramel and fresh whipped cream, served warm and highly addictive. I brought one home for myself, complete with directions for heating and turning it out of it's teeny bundt pan. A side of caramel was included. To die for! A resounding 'YES! We will definitely be coming back!' And will absolutely recommend the Woodshed to others. Give it a try......
