My favorite part of dining here was the cool, old cabin-looking building that houses this restaurant. It has that old-timey barbecue joint ambiance that conjures images of cowboys and depression-era farmers sitting at long wooden tables eating slabs of ribs and brisket. But that’s where the dream ends. The service was lackluster as it was at least 10 minutes after we sat down before a waitress acknowledged us and took our drinks order. Then it was almost another 10 minutes before she came back to take our food order. We both ordered the two meat plate, which came with two sides. Now, I don’t know about you guys but this Texan likes his brisket sliced thicker than Oscar Mayer ham and the brisket I got served looked like it came from the HEB deli counter (I mean thin) and drowning in barbecue sauce. I prefer brisket served dry so I can add the sauce to my liking. The potato salad was ok and my friend raved about the coleslaw, but my baked beans tasted eerily similar to canned Ranch Style beans (aisle 17 at HEB). After finishing our meal there’s nothing I enjoy more than having to get in line and waiting 10 minutes to pay my bill. I’m not exaggerating either. I had to wait that long while the lone cashier rang up one customer at a time. I don’t understand why they didn’t open the second cash register. I mean it’s sitting right there on the counter. Finally it was my turn and I recognized the owner from a local television show that features local restaurants. Anyway, she never asked me how my meal was or greeted me with a smile. Isn’t that what any restaurant owner should do if they want to make a customer feel welcomed and appreciated? After paying up I left the restaurant feeling…disappointed. I had hoped she would at least say thank you and come back soon or something. But nada. Oh well, this barbecue enthusiast rode off into the dust still eager to explore other barbecue establishments in...
Read moreI have always enjoyed the 492 BBQ in Trenton—it consistently delivers excellent food and service. However, my experience at the 492 BBQ in Mission was extremely disappointing. The food tasted old, as if it had been reheated, which is unacceptable for a restaurant known for its quality.
I have visited this location multiple times and have never had my brisket pre-dipped in BBQ sauce. I always order a pound of brisket expecting it to be sliced and moist, but this time, not only was it covered in sauce without my request, but the meat itself tasted stale and reheated.
The owner of this location needs to address the issue with the staff, as serving old food will not go unnoticed—especially by longtime customers like myself. The 492 BBQ in Trenton consistently provides fresh, high-quality food, and this location should be held to the same standard.
I left feeling extremely disappointed, particularly with the brisket, which did not reflect the quality that 492 BBQ is known for. If I could, I would give this experience zero stars. I couldn't even finish my meal, and that says a lot. If the owner is willing to discuss this matter, I am more than happy to share my concerns because this is not the level of service and quality that customers expect from 492 BBQ. I strongly urge management to address these issues—especially regarding reheated food and pre-saucing meats without...
Read moreCome to this place on the recommendation of Ernie youtuber I follow. Where do I start? The time to place our order took a long time. I tried to order a little of everything based on the reviews I read. I ordered 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 of fajitas, 1/2 some small ribs, quarter leg of chicken and sides rice, beans and potatoe salad. My sister ordered lamb ribs? Potatoe salad and green beans. First of all why put BBQ sauce on the brisket? I never ordered with sauce. The brisket tasted as if it was oven made. No smoked flavor and 100% grease. The fajitas tasted as if they just cut the cow in the kitchen strong blood flavor. The small ribs had shreads of meat all bone and chewy membrane. The chicken was extremely dry and also in BBQ sauce. When people drown meats in sauce what are they trying to hide? The lamb ribs my sister ordered were also full of greasy membrane and bits of meat. They took a long time to bring out food to table. They fed their regular customers first we noticed. The meal was not cheap $77.00 for the so called BBQ. I'm thinking this BBQ is prepared Mexican style. Which is great if that is the type of BBQ you like. I prefer sticking to Rudy's type of BBQ. I don't understand why the owner would bring that plate out to sale to customers? Well this $77.00 will be the only money coming...
