MUST GO TO RESTURANT! If you’re near the El Paso, Texas area - you HAVE to make it a point to go to this and check out all the animals they have onsite to look at. They also do tours of areas on the land that have old movie props, and locations that have been in movies. After you’ve worked up an appetite you can go have a delicious dinner! I'm struggling to find the words to describe how much I enjoyed this place. The building itself was great, the food was great, the animals were great, the whole experience was just superb. If I had to say one thing bad about this place it would be only that it's a little bit of a drive to get to but it's so worth it. So the restaurant building itself was awesome. Looked like something straight out of an old Western movie. Just the perfect balance between cozy and roomy and just awesome. Service was very good. Attentive but not overwhelming. Most things looked clean and tidy. Not many places can you say it was an awesome experience but this place was just perfect. The food was absolutely incredible. I had the cowboy steak (a 2 pound chunk of t-bone) and it was cooked to perfection and tasted even better. Every bite was a joy to eat. Every side dish was excellent as well. Not a thing placed on the table that I didn't fully enjoy. The dessert I had (apple pie a la mode) was just as good as you'd expect at this point of the meal, just top notch. Once dinner was over, I rolled myself to the gift shop and purchased a few things. After that, I proceeded to have a wonderful walk around the spectacular premises and enjoy all the different animals they have there. Great looking cages, well maintained. The animals were certainly taken care of. And what a wide variety of animals as well. A few things of note. There is lots of seating for different sized groups large and small so that's good. It gets busy quick so have a plan before going. Bring that appetite! This experience was a joy from start to finish and ranks as one of my favorite restaurants to date. Thank you Cattleman's. I never say this, but you exceed the 5 star perfect rating.

Came here for a celebratory dinner on a Friday night. They don't accept reservations, so suggested arriving shortly before opening at 5pm for a party of 20. This was good advice as we were immediately seated at a large table upon opening. There's an inside lobby which was opened before the restaurant actually opened. The restaurant is massive with multiple sitting areas and many large tables. In the lobby, there's a glass case showcasing the various cuts of steaks and their respective sizes. In addition to the steaks, they do salmon and some BBQ options. Prior to the meal, we started off with some drinks and some bread. For the meals, we ordered many different cuts from the Ribeye, Filet Mignon, T-Bone, New York Strip, Top Sirloin. In addition to the steaks, we did have 1 order of the Beef Ribs. With all the steaks, they come with coleslaw and beans. Since we had a large party, they just brought out several large bowls of each. Service was extremely fast, friendly, and efficient. They had multiple staff members constantly bringing food and drinks to the table and making sure we didn't need anything else. Their teamwork was impressive in taking care of a party of 20. They did a great job of answering many questions related to the menu and options. All orders were brought out together in about 15 minutes. Each steak was cooked perfectly as ordered. They got every order right from the wellness to any additional toppings ordered. I wanted to try some of their desserts and ice cream sodas, but was too full from the steaks. Afterwards, it was nice to walk around the grounds to see the animals and sights. This is a must visit if you're in the El Paso area. I look forward to my next trip.

To be clear, my experiences are probably different than most people. I have eaten at thousands of restaurants around the world. And I can cook. So when I review a place it is with this context. My experience at Cattleman's was just OK. The place brought to mind a feeling that this is where your grandparents would take the family for a special dinner because they think you'd like it. And you would go because you'd think it would make them happy. And everyone would have a good time because they'd all be together. Not because of the food. The grounds are interesting. It's like a mini zoo, with ostriches, goats, rabbits, snakes, peacocks... Even a horse just outside the front door that you can touch. Inside is a menagerie of bronze western sculptures, some WW2 artillery (?), ceramic animal figures, a gazillion potted plants, some TexMex artwork, and more. Cattleman's does not take reservations so you walk down a really long hallway, put your name in, and wait. They call you over the PA system which also works outside so you can sit outdoors while you wait. Just don't go to the zoo area unless your wait is more than 30 minutes. It's a bit of a walk. Now, to the food. Based on all of the great reviews maybe I hit them on an off night because I was underwhelmed. The portions were huge (way too much food for an average person) but... the corn on the cob was frozen and then steamed to warm it up. It was overcooked (this will be a theme). The coleslaw was alright (your standard shredded cabbage (bagged?)) but they added some canned pineapple chunks. The beans were overcooked and neither sweet nor spicy. I had a couple of bites and moved on. All of this may come from their local supplier like Sysco Foods. Maybe I made a mistake going with the barbeque but it was on the menu as 'real Texas barbeque' supposedly slow smoked overnight. I've had lots of barbeque, in Austin, and Dallas, and KC, Memphis, North and South Carolina... This? Was not good. Near as I could tell it was probably yesterday's brisket that they had left over and reheated. It was a solid hunk of dry meat. I needed a steak knife to cut through it. No juice whatsoever. A bit of bark. Not really overcooked. Just old I think. I got the Beef and Ribs which included 2 beef ribs. These were 100% overcooked. Weirdly though, they tasted better than the brisket (different rub?) but they were also dried out. Not even fall-off-the-bone so I'm guessing they cooked them too quickly and then just held them off to the side of the grill or in an oven for far too long. There were also dinner rolls which I did not try. An iced tea rounded out my meal as after the mains I did not have any hopes for the 'made fresh daily' (ah, yes, but where?) apple pie. With tip, I was in for $41, which when you consider it was enough food for 2 people, and there were peacocks, seems reasonable. This place is 30+ miles outside El Paso. It was fairly busy at 7:00 PM on a Friday evening in May. If I was with a family group and it was a special occasion I might come back. Otherwise there are better places to eat much closer to town.

I have heard from many people that this place is fantastic, I think maybe we just came on an off night. Everything was still alright, I just had much higher expectations. You can see a few of the issues from the photos below. The Ranch was beautiful. Really nice drive from the road up to where you park for the restaurant. All of the decor here was cool too, we walked around the restaurant after we ate and checked it all out and stopped into their gift shop to look around. Service was fine. Nothing exceptional but definitely not poor. Our server was a nice young lady. So on to the food. The Beef Ribs were terribly overcooked. When they got to the table there was barely any meat on them. If you know anything about beef ribs, this is not what you'd expect, especially at a steakhouse settled on a ranch. We told the server we were upset and she did get us another rack. They did have more meat on them and less char, but still overcooked on the outside. Had we gotten the second rack first though, I would have been satisfied. The porterhouse also had a very hard cook on the outside, but being a large cut of meat that needs to reach a certain internal temperature (even though we only got it med-rare), I was willing to overlook that. The meat itself was good quality and I enjoyed the steak. The beans tasted good and the pineapple slaw was very good. Very different, but very good. We chose to skip on dessert this time around. I'd love to go back someday and see if maybe we just caught a rough day for the team there. Sadly I can only report based on what we experienced though and that was a "good" meal.

It has been a long time since I came here last maybe I was about 6 years old. I decided to take my husband who isn’t from this area and my 2 year old daughter for lunch on a Sunday. We arrived and we promptly seated after about 5 minutes. The welcome staff was nice and efficient. I love the decoration and all the old western stuff inside it really feels like a Texas Steakhouse here. Our service was, meh, I mean I have had better but I wasn’t expecting too much. It was very basic, “hi my name is so/so and are you ready to order?” I don’t want to call her out so I will omit the name. However, we weren’t coming for the service we were coming for the steaks! I ordered the Filet Mignon Medium with a baked potato, husband ordered The Cowboy Medium Rare with corn, and I ordered my daughter the hamburger with cheese. I also ordered the shrimp cocktail as a starter. The cocktail sauce was nothing the rave about, but the BBQ sauce was really good, I think it was definitely homemade. My daughters burger was first and the hamburger bun was so dry it was nasty. So I was a little disappointed in that. My steak was cook medium rare and the filet is not as soft as you would think most filets are, although they do cut all their meat there. It was a good taste though, I didn’t finish most of it because it was a little rare for me. My husbands cowboy he really enjoyed, but he did say it was on the more rare end not medium rare. I will say I have eaten a lot of steakhouses and this one is fine to show people from out of town but honestly it’s not worth the drive out there. I don’t need to ever go back. It just wasn’t amazing.
