Country Tavern — Restaurant in Texas

I have always enjoyed lunch at the Country Tavern after morning meetings. The food is always great and the service is very prompt. I thought I would take my wife there for our anniversary dinner and show her how good the ribs and brisket are. We came in on a Friday evening about 5, were seated promptly and ordered two ice waters. The waitress advised us the ribs had 20 minutes left until they would be out. We both stated we could pass on the ribs if they weren't ready. Our waitress arrived back with our waters 15 minutes later and said the ribs were ready. We ordered the combination plate with brisket and ribs and were told it should be 15 minutes. 20 minutes later she returned and when we asked about our meal she said it would be 5 more minutes. Another employee came to our table after the waitress had been gone for about 15 minutes and said she had noticed us glancing around the room and wanted to know if we were ok. I told her we were looking for our meal to come because we were about to leave and find another place to eat. About that time our waitress appeared with our meal and began to set it down on our table. I mentioned we had been there for over an hour and were about to leave when she showed up. The waitress sarcastically said she could take our meal back to the kitchen if we wanted to leave. At this point my hungry wife said we needed to go. My wife was very upset at our waitress' attitude so we left. My wife and I are not into setting at a table for an hour drinking beer or mixed drinks. I gathered from the people who were sitting around us, that was what kept them content for the hour long wait they had for their food. ( We watched them). I believe they still have great food, but in the future I will go...

We were very disappointed in the service and the rowdy atmosphere! We thought it was a good place to be able to take ur family but we found this to be not true! Having to listen to the loud cussing and extreme show of manly competition between 3 pool players was very disturbing! My husband & I did not enjoy eating our food! Even when we complained no employee did anything! One pool player should have been shut down as far as being allowed to buy & drink anymore! I think he said the word f___ a hundred times. I looked around and saw young children there with their parents eating and was appalled by the lack of nothing being said by management to shut the cussing and obnoxious behavior we witnessed down! Matter of fact....there was no order what so ever from any of the work staff there. Your servers love to hide behind the scenes and our server disappeared numerous times and was not available when we needed her! We would eat here at least twice a week but I doubt seriously that we'll be back any time soon! Also....mamagement really needs to look into changing how their customers are charged for every little thing....it is so petty to charge your customers additional depending on what side item they choose to eat....for instance you charge 25 cents more for mac & cheese, etc. If you are going to charge extra for certain sides or extra if you choose one meat over another meat then you need to have these costs posted on your menu board for your customers to see instead of slipping these charges onto their ticket at the end and the customer has no choice but to pay for the cost...

Went here at the recommendation of an aquantaince. I do NOT recommend this establishment unless you are a regular here.

Get you food to go! The ribs are flavorful and fall off the bone tender. The brisket is soft but fatty. The flavor is caramelized on the fat side. So if you remove the fat, you remove a lot of the flavor. The smoked turkey has good smoked flavor but I'm not a huge turkey fan. I like it a bit more juicy. The 'spicy' Mac and cheese is simply HOT 🔥 without much flavor, is super thick but not gooey cheesy. The potatoes casserole is pretty good but could take it or leave it in my opinion. Again, not a lot of flavor.

This place is very noisy and not a lot of lighting as it is a tavern. The juke box was going most of the time too.

The service was nearly the worst I've seen! The server was annoyed when we asked if there was a menu. It was near the end of the meal, her hands were full and she leaned over from the other table to ask is we were ok. Never saw her again till my friend was offered a box. I had to request one as one was not brought for me too.

The dessert was very dry, even for a cobbler. I should've passed but we all know I love dessert!

So, if you must stop here, get the ribs to go and keep driving! The BBQ sauce is decent but the ribs...
