La Cabana — Restaurant in Texas

Stopped in for some dinner on our way to Houston. Excellent roadside cantina and Tex-mex spot.

Flavorful table salsa with a good texture. Plentiful and tasty chips to go with it. Tried the Chile con Queso, which was excellent. Loved having the jalapeños on the side to add more heat when you want it.

I had the Cancun plate to try out a variety. Loved the taco meat. Good guacamole. The refried beans were chunkier than I like but the flavor was very good. Cheese Enchiladas were solid with a good meat sauce.

My wife had the Chicken Cabana Taco, which ended up being a single large soft taco that used a unique fried bread like I see on tortas. It was a little heavy but very flavorful. The filling though was outstanding. Fajita chicken and veggies in a excellent cheese sauce. It felt like a signature dish and tasted like the chef really put some work into it. Recommended.

Friendly and attentive staff all around really topped off the visit.

This is my Go-to place. They know me and ask (just in case) “ Chile, Renello, shredded chicken?” I always grin and say YES!

I eat in and take my own to go box cuz I know I’ll take half home; and it’s easy and environmentally friendly. I love this perfectly imperfect place and the service is generally fast and the place isn’t swamped if you go a little before or after rush hour.

Have been ordering food from here for years. Not anymore. They have been giving less and less food every time. There prices are going up. This is several times now they have messed up our order.
